It’s great to see all the institutions putting together seminars for us all going into the next round of #nhmrc investigator grants… but my overwhelming feeling is this system is just so BROKEN. Why should we keep finding new ways to explain who we are, /1
and what we plan to research? How about we have an information session for reviewers in recognizing biases, understanding RELATIVE TO OPPORTUNITY (I’m still not over that one) and how NOT TO SCREW OVER the remaining women in science? #womeninstemm /2
And how about we ask @nhmrc to share what the plan is? Because this is currently not working. Like not even close to working. I’m done being made to feel like this is on us to fix. That interpreting this convoluted application will suddenly make me fundable?? /3
That by spending hours, sacrificing time with my family and away from research, will somehow magically fix the problem. Oh, THAT is how you select your top 5 papers? Now I’ll get funded. And here I was thinking the dire underfunding of medical research in Aus is the issue /4
There is always some commotion about broken systems, lack of funding, gender biases after every round, but do we now just all put our heads down & try to work out WTF research impact is again? If we keep doing the same thing, should we expect a different outcome this time? /5
And not to sound like a total wanker, but I got a top-ranked CDF in 2019. So if anyones advice is, oh maybe you’re just not in the competitive range and you should use your time elsewhere, then just don’t even.
UGGHHH. /6
