My reply guys seem very confused about what I do, so quick explainer! (1) My job is a criminal defense attorney, I represent people investigated and charged by the gov't (including many tech folks!). (2) I'm a SF police commissioner, I sit in an oversight capacity over SFPD.
I love my day job, I get to help people in some of the toughest points in their lives. Some people have done pretty bad stuff, but it's not my role to sit in judgment. To anyone sh**ting on this, I promise you, I will one day represent someone you care about, and you will get it.
In my role on the commission, I help draft policies and guidelines for the police, oversee police discipline in a quasi-judicial capacity, and perform general oversight functions. I do all of this for $100/month, and spend at least 10-15 hours/week, usually more.
The commission work is informed by the defense work though, I see the good, bad, and ugly of policing every day. I know what works, what doesn't, and I believe that all communities should be treated fairly and with dignity. And I fight for this, which I get isn't always popular.
I often post about "skin in the game" on here, what each of us has done to commit to making our community better for everyone. It is easy to just sh*t on those of us trying to make a difference, but maybe you'd feel different if you rolled up your sleeves and helped?
And guess what, I'm also just a regular guy who has lived in SF for 28 years now, raising a kid here. I very much care about the future of this city and am actively working to make it better. I'd welcome your help if you want to join in and work together. But if not...
I'm not seeking higher office and idgaf about people who just want to sh*t on this city and our people. I will absolutely 100% come for you when you attack those of us trying to make San Francisco better. Expect me.

DoorDash just paid "$5.3 million to settle allegations with San Francisco that it stiffed almost 4,500 delivery workers of the city’s mandated health care coverage and paid sick leave." Stealing from the most vulnerable workers, Ryan, that cool with you? sfchronicle.com/sf/article/Doo…
DoorDash isn't some first-time offender out on low bail, they have a long record of stealing, not handbags, but millions from their workers. Ryan thinks that's okay, cause, hey, it's just regular poor and working people. It's not, everyone has a right to work and be paid fairly.
Here's when they literally stole millions in tips from their workers, barely scraping by, trying to feed their family. Ryan thinks its okay to steal tips that families depend on to survive. Haha, screw the poors, amirite, Ryan? businessinsider.com/doordash-25-mi… via @BusinessInsider
I posted on Veterans Day about how much the criminal courts deal with veterans who have served this country, but return with high rates of PTSD, substance use, and other mental health issues. This veteran was shot multiple times during his service and now killed during episode.
Not commenting on the shooting itself, just the tragedy many veterans face on return from serving our country. And how much defense attorney have to fight to get them help and struggle for resources. A lot of social work in defense work.
When I challenge the media to do better, this is a prime example. There were approximately 345,384.34 stories about handbag thefts from Louis Vuitton. This is the only one I’ve seen about a San Francisco veteran who was killed after serving the country and suffering from PTSD.
