🧵 Nagy Thread. 🧵

1) I think the #Bears fully intended to fire him after Thursday. However, I think this leaking may cause them to back out if they win. The optics and images on the business side are prioritywith the McCaskeys over football and firing this way is a bad look.
2) With that said, I think they absolutely did tell him today that he would not be the Bears HC in 22 one way or another. Weather they told him Thursday is his last day, or that he needed to win to keep the job as an audition for the next 6 weeks is anyones guess…
3) As much as I don’t want him anywhere near my football team, I do feel for Matt Nagy as a person. He’s clearly very hard working and invested. By all accounts a nice guy. He’s just not any good at his job, and his personal brand has gotten him 2 more years than he should.
4) What’s next for Nagy? The obvious choice would be to lay low as an assistant somewhere before quietly re-climbing the ladder as a rebranded, more complete coach. I hope he doesn’t go that route and instead goes to CFB instead where I’m sure he could get a HC job at a Mid P5.
5) Why CFB? I think it suits him much better. His best attribute by far is his likability, motivational, and ‘sales’ ability to players. Useless in the pros outside of the corp golf outing but very valuable on the CFB recruiting trail. Can handpick his guys for his ‘system’ too.
6) Enough about Nagy as the person, as a coach it’s been nothing short of a disaster. After scapegoating Helfrich, Burton, Parkey, Helfrich, and Trubisky (twice) his O is now dead last in most notable categories. The offensive genius has gotten worse every year, now dead last.
7) What happened after 18? Simple. Teams got tape on him. Then his huge flaw of not being able to adapt or adjust at all has been on full display ever since. Obvious he has a very narrow idea on what he wants to do, with no real proficiency to adapt it to opponent or personnel.
8) The evidence of this is clear. From his steady decline in production, to his 3rd quarter O history, and abysmal post bye performances. It all points to someone who just can’t adapt his system to the game in front of him, team in front of him, or offensive players he has.
9) Lastly, the situation at hand mandates they Bears cannot afford to wait any extra time. They actually have a very promising O core that they cannot afford to expose to Nagy any longer. Fields, 2 OTs, Daniels, 2 good HBs, and Mooney all on rookie deals. That’s a good core.
10) Like it or not, #Bears job is going to be one of the most desirable jobs not only this year, but recent history. No question. The next HC not only gets the keys to a global brand, 23 YO franchise QB, many other very promising players under 25. Can be competitive year 1.
11) “The Bears have never fired a HC mid season.” This just doesn’t hold water. First, HCs can be interviewed earlier now. No reason to wait. Most importantly Fields is too important. Cannot expose him to Nagy any longer. Like it or not, we all saw how detrimental he was to Tru.
12)Infuriating to see a season, wasted because Nagy was able to ‘sell’ the Mitch scapegoat to George. I didn’t want to be right about Nagy, but been pointing this out since 19. Was overwhelmingly in the minority. S/O to my fellow “Truthers” who saw this fraud for what he is early
13) Here we are. Time to say “thanks and best of luck” to another complete flop at HC. 3 since Lovie. While I’m ecstatic Nagy won’t be coaching the Bears, I don’t take joy in anyone losing their job that put forth the effort he did. Hope to see him succeed in CFB where he belongs
14) Now, with that said, let’s talk about Ryan Pace…

… Just kidding. That’s a topic for another day. @BShulkes @MalcomRiley22 @79illwill @DanGoodwinIII @BdrDengel @RJChicagoSports @vee_whyme @itsmine49 @BearDown_Report @OneandDundas @ButkusStats @JosephHerffNFL

#Bears postgame 🧵.

1) Well, when I woke up this morning to the reality that food poisoning had set in overnight and spent the whole morning in bed, I was pretty positive that was the most miserable thing today would being. Then a Matt Nagy Bears game happened. (Thread)
2) Another complete personification of the Nagy era. Offense that couldn’t score any points in the first half. Young franchise QB looking lost. Finally doing just enough to win, and then the vaunted D folding on a game winning drive. This is how the Nagy era will be remembered.
3) So this is the end of Nagy. It’s been teetering on the brink for 2 years now and today it went over the edge as Watkins runs free on what should have been a routine put away drive against a QB making the first start and looking bad all day.

Bears postgame thread.

1) Wow, how far we have come from the feeling after the Cleveland game. Refreshing to say the least. I had previously talked about the fact if the Bears could manage at worst 2-4 over this 6 game stretch they could make noise this winter. Need 1-4 now.
2) Obviously that’s the floor, not the goal. This team has the makeup and feel of a team that can really peak at the right time. Memo to the NFC—better bury them early because you don’t want this defense and running game combined with a more experienced JF in January. More later.
3) I like the makeup of this offense and I think a skeleton for success is there. Lazor undeniably has a far superior grasp of personnel and game feel. This offense can work off IZ proficiency and PA. They have a stable of backs that can keep all 3 fresh and healthy for Dec.
