I know some have seen my direct experience with someone under my van trying to get to the U.K. but here it is again :
Last year I got the train across to Calais . It was late so I decided to stop at the ibis in Calais .
The next morning I woke up had my breakfast walked out to the carpark, got in the van and headed south towards paris
On the a16 after about 5 miles I heard a faint banging , thinking nothing of it I carried on - but the banging got louder and louder and more frequent
After about 20 miles I was quite worried thinking is someone in the back ??! But the van had security locks and it was impossible to get in - so I carried on . The weather was dreadful - it was dark and cold , I was on the motorway with trucks behind me .
I pulled off at Bologne , strait into the petrol station and by the time I jumped out to go to the back there was a child standing there , shivering and terrified . A child
He want to run off but I told him not to . I gave him my coffee and croissant and said sit in the van .
It was then I realised how young he may be - I asked where he was from , he said Sudan . I asked about this family , said they were no longer here .
When we was at Calais i dropped him off , got some € out the bank and gave it to him . I also gave him my number incase he was in trouble but said I couldn’t help with him coming to the U.K.
Well a month later he was in the U.K. - I didn’t ask how , but he was in a children’s home .
Today he’s at college studying , playing for a local football team and contributing to society
It still shocks me he was clinging on underneath my van , literally for dear life . That’s how desperate people are . A child .
At least it had a happy ending - but could have been so much more worse , the image of him will last a long time . I think until you experience something like that you have to understand these people are human beings

Imagine being a driver or a company transporting goods from the EU to the U.K. and being held solely responsible for the goods on board..and responsible for any duties or vat on those goods . Would you risk carrying them ? I wouldn’t .. brexit 01/01/22 it’s coming #Brexit
Imagine being an EU haulier with 40 pallets of mixed consignments .. a few incorrect declarations and that’s it your stuffed . Your liable for any monies due . Goods and vehicle don’t leave .
Imagine if your carrying a high value consignment for a customer you haven’t worked for before .. and it’s been incorrectly declared . Bang - your liable . But you haven’t played any part in the customs process . How on earth should you know the correct value . It’s bonkers
LIABILITY– The Company creating the GMR we understand will be responsible to UK Customs for all goods loaded to the vehicle and any Customs debt. The Company must ensure all goods have the appropriate Customs declarations in place before the driver boards the ferry/train.
If this is the case the driver is then liable for any duties or incorrect declarations . What fresh hell is this ?
As a driver all we should be responsible for it TRANSPORTING the goods . Not being responsible for guaranteeing the goods . This is a game changer . It’s not worth the risk
I’m going to share my thoughts with you based on recent life experiences so I hope it makes sense , well you probably won’t understand but I’ll try ..
On 28th April 2019 I was minding my own business driving through France in the mountains when out of nowhere a biker hit me head on at around 100mph ..
Now - it wasn’t my fault I must stress , but it was one of those moments still that will live with me forever - even now when I go to sleep I get flashbacks .. Headaches etc
Today’s “tour de carnet” - ebbsfleet-Calais-chassio/como -weil am Rhein- Calais - ebbsfleet . Many many hours wasted in customs - spent the evening transferring a load to another vehicle and a delayed delivery through no fault of my own . Brexit benefits
Johnsons “high skilled high wage” claim is just an acceptance of reality predicted by those who warned him of the consequences of brexit . He’s now so far down a rabbit hole he’s fantasising whilst giving people false hope when in reality we’re facing high inflation and bills
Are we going to start making hydrogen powered time machines ? Rockets to space maybe ? He couldn’t even build a bridge over the river Thames . Maybe technology has moved so far forwards now he can pay those high skilled workers to build it from U.K. made materials .
And at the same time maybe he can achieve his dream and build that tunnel to N.I using some kind of space rock mined by high skilled high wage workers sent up in a U.K. rocket that runs on unicorn gas
There’s a shortage of drivers across the EU . Nothing like what we’re seeing , but nonetheless-what’s happening here has prompted other EU countries to take action . they have the single market and the movement of people . We don’t ouest-france.fr/economie/trans…
trans.info/en/belgian-hau… and in Belgium . It seems that the U.K. is a model on how to NOT do things - but to learn from . Again Belgium is in the single market . We’re not .
And this explains why there were a few empty shelves on supermarket shelves in Brussels . A strike - and was quickly rectified . Of course it was reported completely differently here
