Abandoned church out in the hills in Greene county. Not much info about it available beyond mentions in obituaries. Built in 1870. ImageImageImageImage
Windows were all boarded from the inside. The doors were also boarded at one point but someone had knocked that in. ImageImageImage
fascinated by these seats in place of pews Image
Classic one room country church except for this side room with its own door (you can see it in the external pics). At one point someone had been living in there and stripping things/running wires/building walls. Most recent dated thing we could find was a receipt from 2008. Image
Big fan of this chair. Imagining a raccoon wandering in and sleeping on it. Image
For a weird bad time google this kid and the place she's buried. Image
As I was taking this picture a gun went off nearby. We thought nothing of it until 30 seconds later it went off again. We thought well that might be someone gently nudging us to leave, since our car was visible right outside. Image
We came out and there were two people watching from a truck parked up away from the road near a house we thought was abandoned on a neighboring property. They were talking about us and seemed relieved we were leaving so they didn't have to come down. So we left.
Nice day in extreme southwestern PA. Image

Was going through some very old things today and found this notebook where I was totally for real designing a Zelda game at age 11. This dungeon featured soon to be classic boss "BARR" and beloved npc "MARK". ImageImageImage

We drove up to Potter County, a remote region with the darkest skies in Pennsylvania, to look at stars. Down the road from where we were staying is a tiny town called Austin, notable for a disaster that happened there in 1911. Although tbh "happened" is far too passive a term.
Austin was a small settlement in a valley between the heavily wooded hills, and it grew into a bustling town during the logging boom the region was undergoing during the late 19th century. It was also prone to an absurd number of complete disasters. A short list:
A short list of disasters I found mention of:
1889: destroyed by flood
1890: destroyed by fire
1891: destroyed by fire
1894: destroyed by flood
1897: destroyed by fire

I will rename your poorly-named ska band for free.
I am offering this service to ska bands.
Learn from our mistakes, ska bands of today. We had bad band names as a warning to the future.

It's my birthday. I am 40. Feels basically normal.
This is the first year in a while where I'd love a party with friends but I guess there's a "pandemic" happening and most of my "friends" live "elsewhere"
Thank you for the well wishes, folks.

Today is the 100th anniversary of the The Battle Of Blair Mountain, a huge moment in US history and one most people have never heard of, a shooting fight involving thousands of workers vs the forces of capital in the mountains of West Virginia. #Blair100
This is a good quick summary of things -> inthesetimes.com/article/labor-…
If you have 40 minutes this podcast is also great and contains a lot of great info-> empathymedialab.com/post/the-road-…
If you've followed me for awhile you know how core this kind of thing is to our politics over here, the struggle against capital by organized people who have just had enough of it. And there is a huge history of that which we in the US have been denied, completely by design.
