Pandemic Bill update 🧵
Today we heard the govt & crossbenchers were having a 'meeting'. Turns out this was just advisors from Foley & the Premier's office allocating 30mins for a meeting on a Friday afternoon with 11 crossbenchers & many of their staff. Seems like it's going to be productive, right?
Needless to say the most productive thing achieved was the govt can now tick a box saying they'd 'spoken to the crossbenchers'. Problem is all they spoke about was the original version of the bill & the govts own amendments - nobody elses.
While some questions did get answered, as usual most didn't, including some important ones. In the midst of bleating about how 'transparent' they suddenly plan to be, the govt retains that this apparently shouldn't apply to any past advice that's resulted in the current mandates.
Speaking of, here's some tidbits: the govt intentionally wrote the bill in a way that they can rely on verbal advice, it doesn't have to be written & they're selectively seeking advice from those that they know predominantly already agree with their policy decisions so far.
Despite the selectivity, it seems there are still excessive internal cases of amnesia & confusion when it comes to providing straight answers about exactly what experts gave advice on specific & more contraversial mandates, like those segregating children.
The govt have promised crossbenchers, many of whom are actual empathetic human beings concerned about the disastrous impact these are having on a number of kids, another meeting to discuss the mandates. They've just failed to say a date or time when that'll happen. Funny that.
In the interim, all their nasty little lackys (read: Patten, the Greens etc) have gone full tilt on social media today posting chicken little panic garbage of 'if this bill doesn't get through, we're all going to die!' / 'won't somebody please think of the children' etc etc.
Maybe should've thought of that before you were a pack of dogs & tried to ram this trash through without proper process, happily spitting in the face of other crossbenchers when you thought you could & when challenged on it just straight up lied to the public. Karma's a bitch.
In short the govt trotting out their obedient lacky types, including the unions who have clearly done nothing effective to stop this govt neglecting healthcare for years but now suddenly care so much about the staff - just screams that they're in full blown panic mode now.
The bill is optimistically scheduled for debate on Tuesday, although with no deal currently in place expect the panic porn 'iF tHiS dOeSn'T pAsS' in the media to kick up to 11 over the weekend. It'll no doubt get debated at some point next week & wow is it going to be a dogfight.

Why are they trying to close the borders again? If it's seeded globally already (most likely) you'll achieve nothing anyway & even if it hasn't - what are you achieving, exactly? What you'll keep them locked until there's a new vx? Or until when?
'We just need time for more info' ok how much time? What'll make that end? How many times within that time are politicians going to move the goalposts? This started with '2 weeks to flatten the curve'. Very few people are stupid enough to buy a line like that again at this point.
To the inevitable screeching "are you saying let it rip?!" the question has to be asked, are you saying to start again from zero? Seriously, are you? What do you want here? How much suffering in every other area of life do you not care about if it means you can feed that fear?

Pandemic Bill update 🧵
As mentioned the bill needs to be killed in its current form but all MPs agree they don't want this govt reaching for the SOE again anytime soon. Something needs to exist that has hard limits on powers & much better Parl oversight. So the hunger games of the crossbench commences.
What Adem did was ensure the govt needs another vote, without giving them an inch as to who that would be. A situation made worse by the govt having told the entire crossbench just days before "boo hoo losers your concerns don't matter, bye". That humble pie was an epic serve.

Andy's exact statement was "I have reason to believe that this could be linked to my role as an MP & the positions I have taken on the pandemic response".
While the incident clearly devolved, new statements from VicPol, Andy & his daughter all state it started about graffiti.
Since then it's emerged that Andy's daughter holds extreme views that Nazi's should be violently killed. Clearly nobody likes Nazi's but "there's no place for violence in disagreement" should go both ways, especially since Andy has been labelling all protestors Nazi's for weeks.
While this incident should be persued to the full extent of the law, nobody should have been intimidated or injured, the scale at which this blew up due to Meddick's claims about it being linked to the pandemic bill is truly unbelievable.

Current Pandemic Bill situation🧵
In short, we're all in the Adem show now. He's got the govt by the balls & basically the future of the state in his hands. People seem to have underestimated just how much of a position he holds here, which we saw a taste of this morning. Let's clear up a few things.
Adem has repeatedly said the bill needs to be amended, it's trash. He never said "kill the bill", he's said "kill that version of the bill". Given SOE is no longer an option & the other states retain ongoing powers, most MPs accept something (far, far less awful) could exist.

According to Dan the appropriate response to public concerns from the Ombudsman that detention orders under the pandemic bill weren't able to be independently judicially reviewed was "well she isn't a judge". #qt
Dan once again calling every person at the front of Parliament "a violent extremist".
Within a minute then went on to say that Victoria is definitely not divided, everyone is united.
