Artists Ina Esquivel and AG Saño tell @rapplerdotcom the murals they and other artists created for the Volunteer Center of presidential bet VP Leni Robredo and her running mate Sen Kiko Pangilinan are a "labor of love" which took them 2 weeks to finish, free of charge. #PHVote
@rapplerdotcom Muralist AG Saño, who designed the 60-foot mural of Leni-Kiko, says: We chose to do this as a labor of love... because we believe in their cause. That’s why we want to rally behind that. No amount could match the love that we have for their cause. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Saño on the Leni-Kiko mural: They’re looking at the direction of the east holding their chest as if singing the national anthem and committing to the flag. And you will also see on their shirts written, some popular quotes from them as well as the Constitution. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Saño says the mural symbolizes "the unity, of the hope, the message of the Constitution, and how these two Filipinos actually fight or have fought for the Constitution – to preserve the rule of law and everything that goes with it." #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Saño: Artists have actually changed the course of society in different parts of the world, all throughout history. And this is not an exception, this moment, this time now in the Philippines is not an exception for that.
@rapplerdotcom Saño: Artists should take part in the discourse, in the narrative, in moving forward, in building the nation. We are the best communicators. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Esquivel helped gather together all the artists who volunteered for the Leni-Kiko tandem. She helped paint the mural on the walls of one of the buildings in the compound, which includes the pink jeepney designed by Papemelroti's Robert Alejandro. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Esquivel: They asked me what can we do to make people feel more welcome here. And I said it’s probably best not to just keep printing tarpaulins or billboards. It would look a lot better if we could encourage other people to participate in the campaign. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Esquivel: And so that’s how I came about to finding all of these wonderful different artists to help us paint this space. Instead of just making it pink, it was really about having a message per artist, and so that’s how we all came to be, I think. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Esquivel: It’s a labor of love for everyone who’s willing to participate in the upcoming elections and it also shows their camaraderie and their sense of belonging to a special cause that they actually believe in. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Esquivel: Everything here is purely a voluntary act. There’s no compensation. It’s really just out of, it’s really a labor of love, I think, for our country, and for the message that VP Leni and Senator Kiko have for the campaign. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Esquivel: I think when we did this and gave up our time, it was really to show people na it’s not about just getting money anymore. It’s not about art, which is what we use as our voice. Let us use it to help others, to uplift others. #PHVote#WeDecide
@rapplerdotcom Esquivel: We’re just trying to make the Philippines better and I think that is what their campaign is ultimately about – it’s about helping other Filipnos rise and I think that this space really does that. #PHVote#WeDecide
