2/n City Infrastructure consists of things like roads and highways, public transportation, and utilities like sewage, water, energy among other concerns. This infrastructure is planned and developed in the context of the citizens and communities they will support.
3/n City infrastructure is scrutinized by architects and civil engineers who ask questions like how wide should the roads be? how will traffic flow? how to ensure safety? will we bury our utilities? how much sewage and water treatment do we need?
4/n City Infrastructure directly impacts safety, quality of life and sustainability, but it's largely invisible and hardly a selling point for the attractiveness of a city when considering relocating from city to another, but...
5/n When city infrastructure is poorly planned and implemented, citizens suffer. They suffer power outages, awful traffic congestion, undrinkable water, piles of trash and rubbish, strange smells, and general poor quality of life.
6/n City infrastructure must be updated and maintained as cities age and grow and there are optimal time horizons for proactive maintenance before. Maintenance is unavoidable but should be considered up front to minimize disruption to citizens. think Hard Fork Combinators here.
7/n There are many specialized firms that focus on planning, engineering, and construction of city infrastructures. Think of companies like Bechtel, Kiewit and Skanska a few of the largest and most well respected engineering and construction companies in the world. a $10.5T Mkt.
8/n These firms think very deeply about the challenges of architecting, designing, engineering, development and project management of large scale infrastructure projects because these projects take years and many billions of dollars to deliver.
9/n They are constantly thinking about innovations in materials, techniques, and sustainability. Their deep thinking about these challenges ensure metropolises can evolve and grow with the changing needs of citizens and communities.
10/n When city infrastructures are well thought out, daily life feels less constrained and communities can thrive. Transportation infrastructure ensures mobility so citizens freely move about between zones and districts. Citizens can live, work, and play where they choose.
11/n Building city infrastructures is very different from building communities. Well though out city infrastructures should largely feel invisible so that we can focus on people, personalities, arts, and expressions of individuality, community and creativity.
12/n The builders of city infrastructure consider density and zoning of cities that will be built on top of the infrastructure, ensure sufficient energy and utilities are available, but the final mix and form of residential, industrial, commercial developments are unknown.
13/n Development of the infrastructure and the building of the city and communities on top of this infrastructure is loosely coupled and can evolve at different intervals, but there should be some anticipation of constantly changing and evolving contexts.
14/n DLT platforms and protocols are like city infrastructure, but instead of streets, plumbing, utilities and energy, we have to consider fault tolerance, network traffic, security, node operations, and high assurance computing models.

16/n The Development OF DLT platforms is distinct from the building ON these platforms. The development OF the Cardano platform and protocol is independent and distinct from building smart contracts, programmable validators and DApps ON the public permissionless Cardano platform
17/n The Development OF Cardano requires mastery of advanced multidisciplinary cryptography, computing & engineering concepts. It requires highly skilled engineering & development practitioners collaborating with researchers coordinated by program and project management pros.
18/n Just like with city infrastructure, when done right, Dev OF Cardano is largely invisible to the citizens and communities building ON Cardano, even if thousands of scientist, engineers & devs familiar with the depths of its plumbing, underground corridors and specifications
19/n You don't have to be architects, civil engineers or urban planners to appreciate a well thought out city. You don't have to be a computer scientist or Haskell engineer to appreciate good UX and high assurance functionality provided by DApps being built ON Cardano.
20/n Regardless, you can rest assured there are many DApp developers who can appreciate the solid foundation and verifiably correct by specification principles upon which the Cardano Ecosystem has been built.
