As more states decriminalize and legalize cannabis, Black entrepreneurs are again getting shafted. In 2016, of the 15 companies chosen to grow cannabis in Maryland, all 15 companies were white-owned.
So now we have Black people disproportionately arrested and incarcerated for cannabis "offenses" and white people reaping the benefits of decriminalization, legalization, and capitalization. This cycle plays out time and time again. When we talk about white privilege, this is it.
