@opcw administers the Chemical Weapons Convention #CWC, the international treaty implementing the prohibition and monitoring the destruction of all current chemical weapons.

Members of the @ATSTIDSection have been researching mechanisms of chemical weapons lung injury and are involved in the development of countermeasures, and educating members about chemical disaster awareness and preparation.
Recently, the @atscommunity called for a moratorium on the use of tear gas. thoracic.org/about/newsroom…
The Chemical Weapons Convention permits the use of tear gas (riot control agents) for law enforcement, however, no limits for use are given, leaving enforcement to individual states.
As documented by ATS members, many #CWC member states have used tear gas at vast quantities in confined spaces, injuring or killing protesters.
The ATS also raised concerns about the use of tear gas during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, due to evidence that chemical lung injury increases the susceptibility to viral infections.
The @cwccoalition posted a statement raising concerns about the excessive use of tear gas calling for the @OPCW #CWC26 to implement a moratorium on tear gas use:
