I'm going to attempt a nuanced conversation on here... And I'm going to begin by negating what's not being discussed here
I am not talking about racism, misogyny, or bigotry
I am not talking about your kids hateful second grade teacher that is systemically harming your children
I am not talking about people being held accountable for their harmful use of power
I am however talking about your company's social media policy
Specifically social media policies in education
Your company (school systems ect are companies) does not compensate you for every facet of your life
They do not own you... There are boundaries, limits, lines as to your productivity for the agency
A person that is competent, skilled, and credentialed should not be denied employment because... "I saw a picture of you drinking"
"saw a glass of wine"
"wearing a bathing suit"
"you were dancing in a video"
"support for blm"
"Muslim lives matter"
Let's speak plainly... Teaching children specifically and education in general... Does not slap enough for admins to desire such control
"if I can find it so can ______"
Imma stop you right there ... If you own me pay me like it... If not parent your children
Teachers get food stamps... Can't afford housing in most major cities, and are under resourced... Are you sure their social media is the problem????
This is not just an education thing... Any industry/ profession that hinges on performative virtue
It's the persistence of adolescence that renders us unable to discern between truly harmful behaviors and people who (against my advice) like Budweiser
"why is your social media locked"
Okay .. How do you know it's locked?
What do you need from it?
Why are you on it?
Do you as an administrator understand the difference between actual harm and institutional control?
One of the more difficult conversations that I have in community is knowing the difference between behaviors that need addressing and your personal values being superimposed on others
Your personal values (and frankly some of these are not values they say nothing about what you prioritize as far as human dignity) are not the determinant of someone's ability to do a job
I see this a lot in....
That's right.... Faith spaces
Appearance, dress, association, socialization.... Says nothing about who this person is
I remember the story of a Sunday school teacher that was ethically multi partnering... "She shouldn't teach children"
I thought y'all wanted to grow the kingdom????
She is bringing in the sheaves!!!!
She brought you a man and a woman!!!! That's two souls
Shout now!
But let's speak frankly... This monitoring is applied to women
Because this is not about professionalism... It is about control
And directly the control that male admins desire over the bodies of their women subordinates.
Once again...I am asking people who occupy spaces that espouse virtue, morality, and goodness to... Grow up
Also... Your pastor is not your captive... "She got pregnant"
I know a gang of male pastors who have outside kids and literally won't stop having them who are still employed and y'all still shouting every Sunday
"it was brought to my attention"
A liar... Lying
Beloved if you like to watch... They got people for that
