I had a great conversation today with @moseskagan and got inspired to introduce myself. A 🧵 about me:

I’m the “placemaker in chief” of @CampNorthEnd, a 76-acre site, 1 mile from #Charlotte’s CBD. (1/12)

We are building a place through the adaptive reuse of some amazing, giant industrial buildings, one a 1924 Ford factory designed by Albert Kahn and five built by the US Army in 1940/41. (2/12)

(And yes, the US Army built 1msf of warehouse buildings in less than two years. There is something to calling them the #GreatestGeneration.)

I call myself “placemaker in chief” instead of “developer,” because buildings should always be about the people that occupy them, not the 🧱 and 🥢 --- and I say that even though I’m incredibly proud of the amazing work we’re doing with the 🧱. (4/12) instagram.com/p/CVBR-zOJ9Jl/

I do that work within a family business called ATCO that I run with my sister, @katehgoodman. She does an amazing job running our New York City portfolio, which is mostly midtown office and also prime multifamily. (5/12)

Besides #retwit, you’ll see me actively expressing my passionate hatred for what transportation engineers have done to our country; my resentment for the ever-more-rigid codes that virtually prevent good urbanism; my sadness about the results of urban renewal, redlining... (9/12)

...and the continuing legacy of segregation; my constant surprise at how mean our society is; and my fears that the US may actually not be a democracy within a short number of years. (10/12)

I work on a project in and tweet a lot about Charlotte, but I’m a born and bred New Yorker – don’t hold that against me either.
