A short thread about the 3 songs chosen by Angela Merkel tonight for the traditional #Zapfenstreich (military tattoo) as she leaves the Chancellorship after 16 years. Every Chancelor has the ceremony when they leave office, and the songs say a lot about their characters 😎

A traditional German hymn. Merkel's father was a pastor.

Typically, Merkel showed little emotion during the tribute. But once it was over, she let her feelings show for a moment when she pinched one of the roses from a stage display for herself. No doubt as a memento 😉🌹
