Today was supposed to be my first day of vacation, but since the FTC dropped stuff at 10 pm last night, I spent the morning reading documents and taking a trip down memory lane to the 1980s.
AMREP Corporation = American Realty & Petroleum Corporation. It started out as an oil and gas leasing company in Oklahoma but then started buying up unused land and reselling it to potential homebuyers to build suburban subdivision.
In 1975, the FTC sued AMREP for false and misleading sales practices. The FTC said AMREP misrepresented the growth rates of the areas where these subdivisions were located to make these lands seems more attractive as investments than they were.

The voting rules aren't part of the FTC's public rules of procedure. Instead they are in another document, The Office of the Secretary's Manual ecfr.gov/current/title-…

In a joint statement, Simon & Schuster and Penguin Random House says they intend to "fight this lawsuit vigorously."
“This is a pro-consumer, pro-author, and pro-book seller transaction, which will allow increased investment in the publishing programs of both S&S and PRH. /1

. @USDA's competition czar Andy Green says cybersecurity breaches, climate change and depletion of water resources, labor shortages and other problems are all magnified by the concentration in agriculture marketplace.
"The 40-experiment of lack of antitrust [enforcement] and market deregulation has come home to roost. Much like the 2008 financial crisis didn’t happen overnight, these problems were years in the making."
Green says the Biden/Harris USDA is working to reinvigorate the Packers & Stockyards Act and its protections against predatory practices in wholesale and retail meat markets.
