If you then add in seasonal variations, the coincidence that vaccines only came in early Spring of 2021 in wide availability skews the data even more.

My guess is there will be differences ultimately...mostly based on vaccination rates. And that my give you secondary political differences.
But ignoring 2020's deaths, while basically including immunity created by that early surge, is not helpful.
