two humorous footnotes here: a) i believe this screenshot was saved on a mormon facebook page and thats how it started making the rounds again, and b) i am currently writing this tweet on the floor of my studio underneath a baby (fr)
did you know that when babies are hungry they headbutt you (its real). very powerful. he will just straight up bash his head into me to request milk. before crying. thats the first maneuver. bam. forehead smash into clavicle: “give me breast”
we fixed his tongue tie, so every three hours i have to open his mouth and poke around in there and he cries. im not complaining, i just thought i would tell you its kind of a vibe, on the floor, doing that, in the art studio, its raining, looking through documents. whatchu up to
what i really need, which must exist, but i cant find it rn, is an extreme in depth breakdown of the religious situation in each of the thirteen colonies one by one. this seems like it would be easy to find but theyre all about “the colonies” in general.

in his writing jefferson davis calls kentucky “the eldest daughter of virginia”, reminds me of various catholic writers referring to france as “the eldest daughter of the church”.
i am unfamiliar with how common that particular phrase is but interesting seeing it in both places as he apparently attended a catholic school, in kentucky, wherein he was allegedly the only protestant there.
for an extra bit of deep americana, many of us will be familiar with the simpsons running gag of not disclosing their state of residence. however in a “behind the scenes” episode of the simpsons (behind the laughter season 9[?]) they are described as a kentucky family:
do you think that, if we take our current model of the solar system, if you zoomed out from earth and kept zooming out, that eventually it would look like a star? self luminous? do you think the dirt and water around you would look like a bright star from really far away?
i kind of feel like it wouldn’t.
anyway unrelated check out this picture of jupiter in the night sky (mostly swirling gases and liquid btw)
slightly cheesy evangelical programing actually goes super hard sometimes. you drop into a show and its like "a firefighter was recently convicted of negligence for letting a family of 5 burn alive in their home.
actually
thats you, when you fail to share the bible with others
he sat in his car listening to music with headphones on while the mother of five children screamed for help, agonized by the searing pain of the flames as her home crumbled to ashes around her. actually, this never happened. still you. we just made this story up. but the moral is
ive kind of told this story in pieces before but since im watching it again while working i will tell you about my relationship to such programs. theres something about it that really nails down something about american evangelical christianity for me.
tapping the sign by my door that says local village idiot but after looking through a lot of 1800s stuff it really really kind of seems like everyone acted like and spoke as though states had the right to secede and leave the union right up until some of them actually did it.
i mean are we really supposed to think that when the states entered the union they all thought explicitly that if they ever tried to leave the other states would come there with soldiers and kill them. thats really really really not the vibe you get at all looking at this stuff.
for example just look at how south carolina left + how they went about that. of course there was complications + that was the start of the war but clearly they didnt think they were starting a war when they said they were leaving. am i supposed to just think they missed the memo
inner sanctum patreon CREW: alright its been a minute since i made one of these tweets (although we have been doing patreon posts). this weeks update is up. scanned part of a book and got you guys at least like two weeks ahead on the new comics project / situation. come through.
my wife kind of roasted me and did an impression of me like "i'm owen, i work really hard on my patreon every week but uhhhh i dont want to like bother you so, ill just post the link like twice a year, if thats okay, uh you can check it out, if you want"
so at some point soon im going to do a recap + thread about it and post some highlights from early this year or the year before but i will say, honestly, i have so much stuff on there. its insane. i could just release stuff from there and be good for like, at least 6 months [...]
