Just telling players to "fake more" doesn't work.

They need to see it, then do it. We got you covered with the "see it" part.

Here's 7 videos examples to help your players learn faster:🧵👇
1. In pressure moments, use fakes.

Defenders are quick to reach & fast to jump.

We call this shot-fake around the rim, an “arrum.” As in “air them.”
2. Your eyes are weapons.

Yes, you can use the ball to fake. Yes, you can use your body to deceive the defense.

But often, players don't realize how useful eyes-fakes are.

Take a look 👇
3. The quick fake before the lay-in.

While a bit advanced, it's learnable and definitely effective.

Give yourself more time and space around the rim by using fakes like this. 👇
4. We call it the "double arrum."

One fake is good. But sometimes, especially around good shot-blockers — you need a 2nd fake to finish the play.

Take a look 👇
5. Fake with ball AND eyes.

Fakes are superpowers.

Sync up ball & eyes, and voila — defenders will magically run out of the way. 👇
6. Paint touch fakes

The game slows down when you slow down. Especially against disorganized d, fake at the end of the paint touch.

Simplicity wins.

Watch closely at the :05 second mark. 👇
7. The Chiropractor

An advanced fake that'll confuse a defender like you've never seen.

It'll make them turn their neck so hard they’ll need to see a chiropractor.

@Candace_Parker w/ the brilliant example 👇

And a bonus (couldn't resist). Number 8.

Of course, your players aren't making this exact fake.

But it's the principle that matters. @KingJames moves his eyes and the ball.

It's believable — and it moves 2 defenders out of the way.

Best angles at :11 & :18 seconds. 👇
Point is, fakes are under-taught & underused.

So follow this simple rule — fake more.

And the game will open up. Players will score more and create like never before.

Shoot, if your whole team does it, you'll win some games you probably shouldn't.
Recap:

1. When pressured, use fakes
2. Your eyes are weapons
3. Quick fake before the lay-in
4. The double arrum
5. Fake with ball AND eyes.
6. Paint-touch fakes
7. The chiropractor

Bonus: The Lebron fake.

27 daily reminders to go from a GOOD shooter to a GREAT shooter.

A thread 🧵👇
1. Don’t miss short.

Long misses favor the shooter, short misses favor the defense. If you’re going to miss, miss long.
2. Don’t miss to your dominant side.

Great shooters don’t miss left/right. Eliminate the side to side misses, you eliminate 50% of potential misses.

SHOOT IT STRAIGHT.

Want to be a leader that doesn't need to:

• yell
• scream &
• reprimand

...to bring out the best in your players?

Many don't think it's possible.

It is. 🧵👇
Culture First.

Leaders create positive team cultures & ensure every action is in alignment with their core values.

Southwest Air decided not to charge baggage fees bc it wouldn't align with their culture of providing friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel.
Don't talk about it, be about it.

If you're going to show them the way and talk about the way...

...then you must live the way.

7 things college coaches hate when recruiting players.🧵👇
1. Allergic to defense

Some things fluctuate game to game & college coaches understand this.

But effort, communication & pride defensively aren’t on that list.

Actually, taking pride in defense will get you noticed & could be a separator when compared to your competition.
2. Bad teammate, un-coachable, poor body language

“Your words talk to me, your actions scream at me.”

There's lots of good players out there & most coaches will move on to the next one when they see you sulk, yell at teammates, or roll your eyes when getting coached.

If you only lead by example,

...you're a poor leader.

a thread🧵👇
Now, before you go hard in the comments...

...hear us out.

Leading by example IS an effective form of leadership.
Because let’s face it.

Without the example, any commands you give won't be heard.

They'll be unwanted & ignored.

With a good example as the foundation, you'll have more influence before you ever speak.

Stop calling players soft w/o teaching them how to be tough.

Use these 13 specific ideas to define toughness for your players.

🧵👇
Before we get going, know this:

Toughness is a skill.

It can be developed & improved.

The toughest players are the ones who make it easy for their teammates and hard for their opponent.

Let's dive in.
1/ Set good screens.

When you set a good screen, you're improving the chances a teammate gets open...

...and you're improving the chances you get get open.

That's toughness.
