JAN. 6 COMMITTEE UPDATES: Chairman Bennie Thompson had a lot to say tonight — on the work of the panel, on Mark Meadows, on Mike Pence and on his approach to the committee's final report. Some details:
-The committee has not had any "direct engagement" with former Vice President Mike Pence yet. "We will be talking to the Secret Service about what they did on that day to protect the vice president. We think that’s important for the report."
-He's still hopeful Meadows cooperates with the Jan. 6 committee but that criminal contempt was just "one option" among several the committee could pursue to pressure him if he doesn't show up for a deposition on Wednesday. "The goal is to get information from Mr. Meadows."
-The committee received an eight-hour briefing from staff on Monday that covered every aspect of the committee's work. The briefing including a Capitol Police-led tour of the Capitol to all of the sites breached by rioters.
-Thompson said the committee hadn't yet begun writing its final report but was in the process of engaging outside experts to help piece it together. He said he hopes to present findings in a way that mirrors the 9/11 Commission's two decades ago.
BREAKING: The appeals court has DENIED Trump’s effort to stop the Jan. 6 committee from getting his White House records.
The court says it would be hard-pressed to tell a sitting president — Biden — that his judgment about what’s in the best interests of the United States is wrong.
But it says Trump’s effort fails on every other test as well.
The Archives confirmed that it's in talks with Meadows "to obtain any Presidential records that were not properly copied or forwarded into his official account."
Committee members have quickly pointed out how extraordinary it is that people close to Trump’s election subversion effort are raising the specter of criminal activity.

NEW: DOJ is seeking to prevent Bannon from deploying a key defense strategy — that his lawyers advised him to blow off the Jan. 6 committee. w/ @joshgerstein
