Gonna thread some Emoni Bates clips here in anticipation of more #words

Wanted to qualify all of this by saying this entire Memphis offense is a mess, so starting with a clip that shows some of that. No movement, cutters, screens, everyone staring at the ball.
Emoni is pretty good at using his height on defense when in the lane. Denies any lane for a good shot or entry pass and forces the player into a tough hook shot off the glass
I get why people saw the Kevin Durant in Emoni Bates through his high school/youth circuit days. For a 6’9” wing this is some impressive control of his momentum to slow himself into a controlled shot.
There are a few good things here. Gets some nice separation on the crossover and plants hard to fake the defender into the air. Has the height and length to get off a clean scoop shot near the rim, though it’s pretty off
Emoni’s quickness and handle make him pretty solid at attacking closeouts. He scoots past the defender to his right and uses his large frame to box out defenders from contesting without fouling, and it's an easy two. The question is how much teams will respect his shot
I’m pretty worried about Emoni’s overall coordination when finishing at the rim. It’s good that he has the length to overcome being driven to the baseline and get off a decent scoop layup, but it’s way off. This comes up a LOT when evaluating him, and often in spectacular fashion
Emoni doesn’t see the screen coming and gets absolutely bodied, then a huge momentum-swinging three is hit in front of Duren’s contest
Bates has pretty good footwork on his step-backs and side to side jumpers to get separation, but the lack of makes on these is pretty concerning when shooting was supposed to be his most bankable skill
Love the vision to see his teammate at the rim on the broken play, and makes a nice overhead pass to find him from ~35 feet
The lack of strength really hampers Emoni on his drives and it’s tough to project him adding that much more mass. The negative wingspan isn’t helping either, and it’s pretty easy to move him off his spots and force tough looks for him at the rim
Another video showing why Emoni is really good at attacking closeouts. Basically the mirror image of his attack off the left corner, but this time from the right
Another Emoni head-scratcher. I'm not sure what's worse, that he tried a one-footed three or that he traveled while trying
Bates' relocation skill needs a lot of work. In the late half with no shot clock, everyone on the floor except Emoni is working to get themselves open. Emoni stands still, calling for the ball, being tracked by the defense the entire time. That's not helping anyone
Caught ball-watching while trying to navigate a split between two players, the low man is able to sneak to the rim and Emoni panics, fouling him in addition to giving up the baseline cut
In isolation against Jabri Abdur-Rahim, JAR drives to the paint to rise for the jumper, but Bates is caught reaching in a pretty obvious fashion. Again the physical work is there, but the lack of attention to detail and self-control is frustrating
Being a tough shotmaker at that height is a big part of Emoni’s floor if he can make enough of these shots. Really nice turnaround, establishing deep position on the backdown to his fight before fading away into the shot
Another example of the tough shots Emoni is capable of creating and making. The quick dribble to his left gets separation out of the triple threat and he sticks the jumper in the face of the defender
Trying to find an outlet pass when the dribble move doesn’t work, Emoni has no feel for the double coming from Tyrese Hunter, who deflects his bailout pass
This is a good summary of Emoni's play so far. Threat of the shot and a great head fake throw his defender, and he’s gone. Tries to go into a 360-degree spin dump-off to make a mess out of an easy play. If he can clean up the headache-inducing plays, there’s a good player there

Every Warriors fan knows how Steph gets mauled shooting on a nightly basis, but last nights game against Portland was egregious. I watched every jump shot from both teams from last night to point out how ridiculously ignorant referees are of how Steph is defended. Threaded below.
First possession of the game, Steph uses the Kevon Looney screen to get freed at the break. Dennis Smith Jr. is able to mostly wiggle around it but catches Steph on the wrist. You can see him pull his arm back, the classic sign of guilt. No call.
Take your pick: Little clearly gets Steph on the wrist while also taking up a good chunk of his landing space. Directly in front of the ref. No call

Posting some Franz clips that stood out against the Dubs because he rocks and everyone should know about him.

Using the WCJ screen, Franz gets leverage on Wiggins and puts him in hip jail. That allows him to wait for WCJ to recover and seal off the paint, then he goes up for two
Great way to manipulate Jordan Poole's tag from the far side. When Franz drives, Wendell Carter dives, and that forces the tag on WCJ from Poole so that Draymond isn't 1v2 in the paint. Franz reads it all the way, firing the ball to the far corner for the open three
Another example of Franz's size, handle and patience getting him a layup. Switched on Jordan Poole, he already has the size mismatch, and WCJ vacates the paint along with Kevon Looney. Once Loon is out, Franz spins away from him and Draymond to go up strong over Poole for two

Throwing out some clips from the Dubs' blowout against the Orlando Magic last night, as we got a big dose of the whole roster.

With Kevon coming to screen Cole Anthony's left, Mo Bamba follows him, and Steph spins in the opposite direction to get the open three. Nasty stuff
Jordan Poole's start/stop ability is just incredible. With Gary Harris not anticipating the Draymond screen, there's no chance for Orlando to stop this bucket
Great slow-mo shot of Jordan Poole using the eye/head fake to get Gary Harris up in the air before dropping the pass off to Gary Payton II

Now, time to recap Jon Kuminga's game against Charlotte last night.

He's brought in as a defender with 9 seconds in the 1st but stays in beginning the 2nd. The Dubs have done a great job rotating from the weakside to deny entry passes. Great job to break it up without fouling
I've said Kuminga ghosts screens too often, and he's rewarded when using his body. Sets a great screen on the fake handoff before diving into open space, and Iggy finds him. Rozier gets a strip on the way up, but the ball finds Steph, and then Jon. Waits out Plumlee for the layup
Kuminga has been excellent at leaking down the floor off of shot contests and loose plays. Here he closes out on Rozier who is looking for his own shot (and not McDaniels) all the way. Steph has his head up looking for the runner and rewards Kuminga, who flushes it down with two

Another Kuminga thread? Why not?

Kerr put him in for another early stint against the Bulls, again due to a lack of hustle and defensive energy. He's immediately put on DeRozan, who baits with the up-fake and gets him airborne for the foul. He's not the first victim or the last
I love his fight against Alize Johnson on the boards. Denies him the position on the baseline, and pushes him back out towards the free throw line. Gets a hand on the ball to tip it back and finish the defensive possession
Picks up DeRozan full court and does a fantastic job. Keeping pressure on him with his body, moving his feet in sync, and staying vertical with his hands. Iguodala is able to anticipate on the dig and block the shot

Jonathan Kuminga earned 3 rotation stints over the past 4 games, the first coming against Atlanta. Kerr injects him for energy and defense in a sluggish first. I'll thread the first game below.

Watch him track and affect this shot up the floor. The closing speed is incredible
A play I showed in my Steph vs. Atlanta thread, where Kuminga recognizes Collins has lost him and continues his momentum towards the hoop. Steph finds him with the entry pass and Reddish has no choice but to foul him
I'm no shot doctor but Kuminga's release needs a bit of work. I like his no-nonsense gather and commitment to track the flight of the ball off his release, which improves hand-eye in the long term. I do think shooting THAT high in front of his face makes it tough to find rhythm
