Lots of ads suck.

These 11 ads don't suck.

Here is a weekly roundup of ad inspiration:
1. @cometeer

Melting coffee is a thumb stopper!

Showing = selling
2. Urbanstems

This is a cute photo with a play on the reality of life.

Social distance plants!
3. @wearehims

Hims takes time to introduce the problem of hair loss.

This can look different for people so diversity is key.

Hims finishes the ad by showing off their solution
4. @NinjaKitchen

They use speed-ramping to make the food look sexy.

They show off multiple use cases within seconds to show the versatility of their product.
5. @oakley

This sliding effect is amazing to compare lenses.

Also, this can loop forever which is a plus for the viewer experience.
6. @cotopaxi

Instead of posting multiple photos in a carousel format, and making the viewer scroll, they made a video version to scroll for the viewer.

This is way more engaging of a carousel.
7. @Atoms

The photo is gorgeous.

But then they added a real tweet and customer love within the photo.

Most people will stop by the fact that they see a tweet within a photo versus on top of the photo.

A little photoshop goes a long way.
8. @CopenhagenGroo1

This video is seamless.

I love how they show how their product works without any words.

The animation is top-notch
9. @manimeHQ

The text game is TOO STRONG!

I love how they move from one frame to the next effortlessly.
10. @eubi_official

They ain't afraid of sending ads.

This split-screen shows the performance fabric perfectly.
11. @PrettyLitter

They use text in an unconventional way.

Instead of nice graphics, they handwrite the messaging and embed it into the visuals.

Goodo Studios shoots and edits all videos with actors in-person.

This is more complicated but results in better ads.

In 4 months, I have:

Worked with 20+ actors
Booked 15 spaces
Produced over 150 videos

Here is EVERY tool we use and the EXACT workflow:
1. Hiring Talent

📌Get a description of the actors needed.

📌Go on @Backstage and create the production. Sometimes we use people we know in Seattle or have use other talent networks, but this is the best.

📌We use the talent search on Backstage to invite people to the project.
The hardest part is actor availability.

You need to communicate a lot between the different parties to dial in the shoot day.

📌Create a shortlist to share with the client for final approval.

📌We can decide who we want and who is available.

I'm tired of sub $ 5 million in rev brands losing money on getting bad UGC.

Creative is important, but BAD creative can kill your business.

Here is a basic system to create your own ads, save money, and scale your ads account:
I run @GoodoStudios, and I am telling you to NOT work with us unless you have done your own ads first.

We are a premium, so use this DIY system first.
1. Stop going to marketplaces

These influencer/creator/ugc hubs promise cheap creative, but it attracts the wrong creators for your business, and quality control is VARIED.

I have seen hundreds of bad videos from these marketplaces... I have found maybe 10 good videos.

Most TikTok advice is WRONG.

We had one video do over 400k views, and it BROKE every "rule."

Here's the TRUTH about TikTok since most of it is false. Image

1. You can't be CERTAIN about virality

Anyone saying they understand how to go viral on TikTok and can produce certain results is HOODWINKING you.

As the video gained traction, I laughed because I realized that you couldn't plan for these moments; they just happen.

Most companies don't have a content problem.

They have a brand problem.

Stop looking for quick fixes or short-term gains.

Here are 5 principles to build you brand.
1. Storytelling

Ad spend means nothing without storytelling.

People reference @donaldmiller but never implement storytelling.

Don't focus on one video telling a story.

Think about how every email, word, video, and marketing tell your story collectively.
2. Content is your salesperson

In B2B SaaS, marketing brings in leads to sales.

For DTC, you don't have a sales team.

Your website and the content on the site do the selling.

Similar to story, think about how to use content not just in ads, but on your site as a salesperson.

I audited 100+ DTC brands' social media in 2021.

They all had similar failures with content creation.

Level up your organic content in 2022 with these 10 principles.
1. Use education

No one knows your product as well as you, so educate them.

You need to consistently teach people how your product can help their life.

Cute photos only go so far.

Find ways to talk about product features or do a series where you bring in experts.
2. Use long-form video

Most brands are not finding ways to talk to their customers in long-form.

Put together an interview series or education series to talk to customers.

Think about retention, not just new customers!

Long-form is great to go deeper with existing customers.
