This thing I think is at the root of a lot of cis gender ideology and how they tie it in with sexuality: to ciscentric society, gender is waaaay more about sorting people for sexual relations than it is for anything else.

They can't imagine someone having the conviction that they are a particular gender unless there was some sexual reason because that (to them) is what gender is for.

Like, whatever reason it is that I say I'm a woman... if I'm not being motivated by a gendered sexual desire, it's unfathomable to them that I could care that much for it to be worth saying so or throwing my life into upheaval over it.

So if I'm a trans woman who likes men, I must either have been born a gay man who didn't want to be gay, or I'm a straight man with a fetish for imagining straight sex from a woman's point of view. And if I like women, I must be a straight man with a lesbian fetish.

And if I'm bisexual or pansexual (which, I am)... I kind of blow up their whole ideology but I guess they just assume that means I'm a giant pervert.

And the thing is, you get really conservative people who are also homophobic... like most of the gendercrits and especially the "LGB Alliance" types... for whom this is why transness is an abomination: because it's not just Men Are Men and Women Are Women, also Women Are For Men.

But even progressive cis people, including queer people who aren't overtly transphobic so much as trans-unaware, people who are fine with gay and bi people, still tend to make this kind of "Why don't you just...?" error.
