they call my restaurant the GOAT but it's not an acronym it's because I serve you chickweed and a rusty tin can that once contained garbanzo water and also as you leave I run headlong into your knees, gore you with my horns, and douse you with rancid piss. Michelin loved it
unfortunately I also took a couple bites out of the guy they sent but one he looked delicious (aka made of tires) and two that's my nature deal with it

whats the word for when a major political party promises to give you basic things you deserve and treat you and yours with dignity and then the moment they get power literally laugh at you for asking and are like "what do you think this is"
a recurrent feature of historical empires is what you could call "the myth of the benign but thwarted king" people would insist the tsar loved the serfs and wanted to free them, but for evil ministers. king george actually loved the slaves, and would emancipate them any moment...

(quietly) it's OK to be ambivalent about how the rhetoric of "bodies and spaces" can erase agency while also acknowledging that it's super clarifying when it comes to fundamentally dehumanizing institutions and practices like discretionary stops or the very idea of an "arrest"
which is to say: the sense of the verb "arrest" as used in the history of policing is the same as the verb in basic physics: bringing a body in motion to a stop, restraining its progress. and the history and practice of Terry Stops, Interdiction Zones, etc. is all about 1/2
2/2 proclaiming entire areas - zip codes, de facto and de jure segregated neighborhoods, Business Improvement districts, "gang hotspots," etc - spaces where officers have superadded license to stop whoever they want to deem "suspicious" just for simply being there

sincerely begging people to read just one book about the history of US policing and its origins in slavery, ethnic cleansing, and crushing worker unrest, and then think about who they sound like the next time they call "abolition" childlike, lazy, uncivilized, divisive, etc

(quietly) just give people money for waking up in the morning, feels like basic decency at this point
(to be clear, you get the money even if you can't get out of bed, it's OK if it's not technically morning either, and you can do whatever the fuck you want with it; the sole threshold of means-testing is having a pulse)
options for money distribution include bank deposit, debit cards, Venmo, and also a new CCC employing millions of Americans dressed like this dude who go door to door giving neighbors an envelope of cash, a baked good (could be an edible if you want) and best wishes for your day Image
