whats the word for when a major political party promises to give you basic things you deserve and treat you and yours with dignity and then the moment they get power literally laugh at you for asking and are like "what do you think this is"
a recurrent feature of historical empires is what you could call "the myth of the benign but thwarted king" people would insist the tsar loved the serfs and wanted to free them, but for evil ministers. king george actually loved the slaves, and would emancipate them any moment...
but his edict kept getting lost in the atlantic. and so on. its almost ubiquitous. read the replies to the OP for a sampling of how certain fantasies spring eternal, save now with the properly democratic twist of blaming those who complain for not voting, even if they already do
or even: there is no longer even evil ministers and piratical governors but rather your own ungrateful and (invariably) immature expectations, which thwart you from realizing that you already abide in the glorious regime of It Could Be Worse and should shut the fuck up in joy
