Social media is an issue, but the Right Wing Media Echo Chamber (TV/talk radio, and increasingly, podcasts like Bannon's) probably have the most impact. These threads analyze the psychology/business model of Right Wing Media:

Some thoughts/observations on a potentially complex interplay of sleep deprivation, social media/Facebook attention/addiction, the hijacking of the cerebral cortex (executive function/reason) by the amygdala (emotion), and personality trait-influenced fake news propagation. 1/
First, let’s start with sleep deficiency. While listening to @samharrisorg’s podcast with sleep researcher Matthew Walker/@sleepdiplomat, something caught my attention about the effect of sleep deficiency on psychiatric disorders. 2/ samharris.org/podcasts/makin…
At the 1:27 mark, Walker explains his research findings on sleep and executive function/judgment/emotional reactivity (I cleaned it up to make it more readable): 3/

Yes…manipulation/exploitation of neuropsychological fear responses to not only create the perception of chaos, but to create literal chaos. Because when people sense/fear chaos, they will vote for, or in extreme cases, violently install a “strong man” to restore “order”. 1/

The Right incites the country with Communist/Socialist rhetoric, while simultaneously conditioning the base to support actual Communists/Socialists, and Marxist rhetoric...all in the name of "America First".

Here, MTG riffs about the proper labeling of the U.S. President...1/
According to the Right, "Biden is a Communist" and the Democrats have a "radical Socialist agenda".....

.....yet @TuckerCarlson is rooting for Russia....essentially a de facto Communist country and a foreign enemy of the U.S....against Ukraine: 2/

For a brief period, Republicans seemed resigned to the fact that since Trump/Trumpism ran contrary to the 2012 election autopsy...the inevitability of "demographics is destiny" would cement their fate as a permanent minority party in the not too distant future. 1/ @RadioFreeTom Image
In 2017 Republicans passed Trump's tax cut. Some people warned cutting taxes in a good economy would overheat the economy and cause inflation. But similar to the deficit, the GOP often is only concerned with inflation when Democrats hold power. 2/

Despite holding both houses of Congress and the oval office, the GOP struggled to pass major legislation ("infrastructure week" first appeared in June 2017). 3/ nytimes.com/2020/04/01/us/…

As we (@connorbeaton) discussed on the mantalkspodcast.com (posting today)...the destigmatization of mental health is important.

One technique is to frame "therapy" in a way that is analogous to physical health/physical training...which is viewed as "masculine". 1/
I've worked with male teenagers/men who initially resisted therapy (which was insisted on by their mom/partner) because "there's nothing wrong with me".

This reflexive response reflects the stigma that exists, and the denial that their need/desire to avoid the stigma creates. 2/
My two-part response:

1. Saying that the only people who go to therapy are people who have "something wrong with them", is like saying the only people who go to the gym/workout are people who are overweight/out of shape. Go to any gym in the country....3/
