BREAKING: ALEC held another two-day voter suppression “academy” with the dark money group Honest Elections Project proceeding its December 1-3 meeting, CMD has learned through obtaining an invitation.

The invitation states, "Now, on November 29 and 30, we’ll work with you on how to put these proven methods into practice, from direct litigation strategies, to workshops with leading election experts, to messaging techniques.”

CMD was first to report on a secret elections meeting at ALEC’s Dec 1-3 States and Nation Policy Summit, which only a handful of lawmakers attended. Now we know why.

NEW: The Charles Koch Foundation & Charles Koch Institute paid out $149.2 million in grants in 2020 to universities, right-wing policy, litigation, & advocacy groups, and other causes, the latest IRS filings obtained by CMD detail.

The Charles Koch Foundation & Charles Koch Institute gave $89.7 million to academic centers, colleges, & universities in the US and abroad in 2020, CMD calculated. The total is less than the over $100 million Koch doled out for higher ed in 2019.

The 2020 IRS filings from the Charles Koch Foundation & Charles Koch Institute detail another $11.9 million in contributions to 22 nonprofits that filed supporting briefs in the Koch's Americans for Prosperity Foundation v. Bonta case.

SCOOP: GOP Megadonor & Trumper Dick Uihlein’s foundation distributed $17.6 million in grants in 2020, its latest IRS filing obtained by CMD details. The largest grant of $3 mil went to the SPN affiliate in Florida: Foundation for Government Accountability.

The next largest grants from Uihlein were to Illinois’s SPN affiliate Illinois Policy ($2.2 mil) and to the Conservative Partnership Institute ($1.25 mil). CPI was founded by Jim DeMint and has Trump loyalists Mark Meadows and Cleta Mitchell on staff.
Uihlein also contributed large grants to right-wing media Including to $750,000 to the publisher of The Federalist, $300,000 to the Media Research Center, and $1 mil to the Real Clear Foundation. All these grants are up on @sourcewatch

NEW: Spurred by $158 million from one secret donor, DonorsTrust and Donors Capital Fund pumped over $137 million into right-wing campaigns to remake the Supreme Court, spread election and climate disinformation, and support extremists in 2020.

DT and DCF gave $60.2 million to legal litigation centers, advocacy groups promoting right-wing judges, & amicus organizers in 2020, CMD calculated. The largest recipient was Leonard Leo‘s The 85 Fund, formerly the Judicial Education Project, which received $48.7 million.
DonorsTrust and Donors Capital Fund contributed $51.4 million to national and state level policy and advocacy tax-exempt organizations that make up the national right-wing infrastructure strategically built and maintained by Charles Koch and the Bradley Foundation.

NEW: An “Academy” for state lawmakers on voter suppression strategies run by ALEC in July featured a veritable who’s who of the right-wing leaders behind this year’s disinformation campaign about voter fraud & assaults on voting rights across the country.

ALEC did all that it could to keep this meeting secret from only inviting a select number of its state lawmaker members to attend, to passing out zip drives with materials in hopes materials wouldn’t be subject to open record laws.

Turning Point USA’s investor prospectus details seven core programs that Kirk is seeking the $43 million for: its national field program, events, media, productions, special projects, Turning Point Academy, and Turning Point Faith.

The events budget is the largest at just over $10 mil. The document claims Turning Point has “trained nearly 21,000 activists” at its national events and conferences in 8 years. Speakers scheduled for Turning Point’s AmericaFest in Dec include many stars of the MAGA movement.
