An @AP review of every potential case of voter fraud in the six battleground states disputed by former President Donald Trump has found fewer than 475 cases of fraud — a number so small it would have made no difference in the 2020 presidential election. apne.ws/biUiflr
Joe Biden won Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and their 79 electoral votes by a combined 311,257 votes out of 25.5 million ballots cast.

The disputed ballots represent just 0.15% of Biden’s victory margin in those states. apne.ws/lJ5iE02
Trump and his allies have continued to insist falsely that the election was fraudulent, citing a wide range of complaints including the expansion of mail voting because of the pandemic. Dozens of state and federal courts have rejected the claims.

The small number of cases found by the @AP could not throw the outcome of the election into question even if every vote was for Biden and if all of those ballots were counted, neither of which were true. The @AP also found no evidence of collusion. apne.ws/T9rymJj
Virtually every case involved a person acting alone to try to cast extra ballots, including:
• A woman in Arizona suspected of sending in a ballot for her dead mother.
• A Pennsylvania man who went to the polls twice, voting for himself and for his son. apne.ws/1bWnCFg
Contacted for comment, Trump repeated a litany of unfounded claims of fraud he had made previously, but offered no new evidence that specifically contradicted the AP’s reporting. apne.ws/74STw00
The @AP’s months-long review encompassed roughly 340 local election offices, making it one of the most comprehensive examinations of suspected voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.

It showed that fraud is not only rare, but generally detected. apne.ws/i3FvTPh
In Wisconsin, five people have been charged with fraud out of nearly 3.3 million ballots cast.

“I would have to venture a guess that’s about the same odds as getting hit by lightning,” said George Christenson, an election clerk in the state.  apne.ws/lRFflKC
Donald Holz is among the five people facing voter fraud charges in Wisconsin. Holz was on parole in November 2020, making him ineligible to vote in the state.

Holz said all he wanted to do was vote for Trump, and that he did not intend to break the law. apne.ws/ZzmRLk9
Limited instances of fraud do occur, as the @AP review illustrates, and additional cases are still possible. But safeguards ensure that there are few and that most are caught.

Kennedy’s group, which sows distrust about the safety of vaccines, has raked in money during the pandemic, according to the @AP's investigation. Revenue more than doubled in 2020, to $6.8 million, according to filings with California charity regulators. apne.ws/7wfI9q3 Image
RFK Jr.’s group has become one of the most popular alternative health sites in the world, according to Similarweb. It reached a peak of nearly 4.7 million visits per month in August, up from fewer than 150,000 monthly visits before the pandemic. apne.ws/t6LZyBG Image

BREAKING: Ex-Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin has pleaded guilty to federal charges of violating George Floyd’s civil rights. Chauvin’s plea means he will not face a federal trial in January, though he could end up spending more years behind bars. apne.ws/3TWjZg4
Chauvin was convicted of state murder and manslaughter charges for pinning his knee against George Floyd’s neck during a May 25, 2020, arrest as the Black man said he couldn’t breathe. Chauvin, who is white, was sentenced to 22 1/2 years in that case. apne.ws/VyrxZlU
Federal prosecutors recommended up to 25 years, in prison. A judge will determine his sentence later, but a 25-year federal sentence would likely extend Chauvin's time behind bars by about six years. apne.ws/Pj9mnQG

Nearly two years into the COVID-19 pandemic, the origins of the virus remain shrouded in mystery. Most scientists believe the virus jumped from bats to humans, either directly or through another animal. Others theorize it escaped from a lab. apne.ws/cq2MZmd
As the global death toll from the virus surpasses 5.2 million, a growing number of scientists are trying to keep the focus on the more plausible animal-to-human theory. They hope what’s learned will help fend off future viruses and variants. apne.ws/hw6Uxxd
Michael Worobey, a University of Arizona evolutionary biologist, first signed a letter saying both theories were viable. But he said he was always more supportive of the animal hypothesis, and his own and others' research has made him even more confident. apne.ws/dPWcqJR

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison says it will join the U.S. in a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Games.
Morrison said it should come as no surprise that Australian officials would boycott the event after the nation's relationship with China had broken down over recent years.
“I’m doing it because it’s in Australia’s national interest,” he said. “It’s the right thing to do.”
He said Australian athletes would still compete.
Rights groups have pushed for a full-blown boycott of the games, accusing China of rights abuses against ethnic minorities.

Pearl Harbor attack survivors have gathered at the bombing site to remember more than 2,300 U.S. troops killed 80 years ago.
About 30 survivors and 100 other veterans of the war participated in a ceremony at a pier overlooking the USS Arizona Memorial. They observed a moment of silence at 7:55 a.m., the same minute the attack began.
The USS Chung-Hoon, a guided missile destroyer, passed in front of the pier with its sailors “manning the rails” or lining the ship’s edge to honor the World War II veterans present.
