I recently found some emails from a therapist who reached out to me when I first started my old blog. They worked in trans health, thought there were too many AFAB people transitioning & wanted more psych screening. They wanted to use detrans people to argue for more gatekeeping.
I'd been detransitioning for under a year, not long enough to know if it was going work out for me in the long run, which it clearly didn't. I'd only been blogging for 2-3 months when this therapist contacted me. They never seemed to consider that I could change my mind again.
I detransitioned because I internalized a lot of transphobic ideas that ended up causing me a lot of suffering. A lot of what I said at the time I later ended up rejecting. Really I was a trans person about to make a lot of bad choices that I'm still recovering from.
People like that therapist didn't trust young trans people to know themselves and thought they needed more thorough assessments to make sure they didn't hurt themselves. But because what I said at the time aligned with their biases they never questioned or dug deeper.
It's so striking to me now how so many people who have "concerns" about people "transitioning for the wrong reasons" will question trans people's identities or desire to transition to death but accept detrans people's stories at face value if it fits with their beliefs/biases.
Having people so ready to act like I had everything figured out at the beginning of my detransition was all about confirming their fears and anxieties. They treated me like I was the evidence they'd been looking instead of a person who needed space to figure out what I needed.
The way they treated me was the opposite of what I needed. I needed people to let me be, give me space to grow and change, I needed people to gently challenge my belief that transition had messed my life up because that belief turned out to be irrational and harmful.
I needed people to help me alleviate my suffering, not try to use it restrict trans people's access to healthcare. If I had gotten real help though, I wouldn't have gotten involved in anti-transition activitism, I wouldn't have been useful to people who want more gatekeeping.
I didn't get what I needed. Instead I said and did a lot of things that hurt myself and other people. I deeply regret much of what I did during my detransition. People freak out so much about "transition regret" but can't seem to imagine that detransition could be disastrous.
I just wish people actually gave a shit about helping people get what they needed instead of being driven by their transphobic anxiety. So much "concern" about transition is really about indulging cis fears at the expense of trans and detrans people. It doesn't help anyone.

There are whole online communities for transphobic parents like this where they give each other advice on how to do conversion practices on their trans child to get them to "desist". Some of these parents also protest clinics that help trans youth.
Obviously they have more control over youth who are under 18 but they also try to control adult children too and often complain about how their trans kid has "too much freedom" once they leave home, go to college, etc. Not surprisingly, a lot of their kids have cut them off.
These anti-trans parents want to shut down all access to medical transition and replace it with conversion "therapy". They work with conversion "therapists" and help start & support organizations like GENSPECT that promote anti-trans conversion "therapy" for trans youth.

TERFs are trying to sabotage the new @wpath SOC. WHRC is a hate group that calls for the elimination of "transgenderism" and trans civil rights and accuses trans women of being "dangerous perverts" and "parasites". Now they're attacking our bodily autonomy & access to healthcare. Tweet by WHRC.USA reads We are going to send out an email as
I expect that @wpath is going to receive a lot of transphobic and transmisogynistic comments from TERF groups like WHRC & pro-conversion "therapy" groups like GENSPECT. This just another form of harassment, like the protests outside of clinics. It's a show of force/intimidation.
Anti-trans hate groups are mobilizing to eliminate our access to medical transition and healthcare. This isn't about "protecting women's rights" or "protecting children". This is cis people feeling entitled to control and dominate trans people, to erase us from society.

Since people are talking about anti-trans books being sold on @amazon, let me remind everyone that they are also selling a DIY conversion therapy manual for transphobic parents who want to force their trans child to "desist". reclaimingtrans.wordpress.com/2021/04/15/tel…
Here's thread I made about the book when it first came out, including screenshots. @amazon took the book down temporarily but later reinstated it.
@amazon also sells "Always Erin", an anti-trans "children's" book that tries to teach children that being trans is caused by trauma and "Transing Our Children" which is yet another book scaremongering about young trans people and "gender ideology".

Genspect, an anti-trans hate group made up of transphobic parents and conversion therapists, is fishing for comments on the new @wpath SOC 8. They object to how the SOC doesn’t mention the fake disorder “ROGD” and want more gatekeeping around pediatric transition.
So basically, transphobic parents who want to control their children's medical decisions (often well into adulthood) and conversions therapists with a financial incentive to restrict access to trans-affirming healthcare are trying to sabotage the @wpath SOC8.
Trans people of all ages deserve bodily autonomy & quality healthcare. Groups like Genspect are attacking our self-determination & access to resources we need to thrive. I encourage those willing to submit comments affirming trans autonomy & well-being. wpath.org/soc8

Watching people promote "exploratory gender therapy" for trans youth while I process how the conversion practices I engaged in hurt me and fucked my life up is uh, not particularly fun. By which I mean I'm absolutely terrified about young trans people getting really hurt.
Some of the conversion practices I engaged in are similar to some forms of "exploratory gender therapy", namely trying to link gender dysphoria and being trans to trauma. The conversion practices I tried caused me immense suffering that I'm still recovering from years later.
Coming to see my transition, trans identity & gender dysphoria as being linked to past trauma increased my depression, self-hatred, shame, and suicidal ideation. It didn't help me heal from my past trauma & it didn't "cure" me from being trans, it just traumatized me further.

People who go on about "listening to detransitioners" stop listening if you retransition and/or talk about how detransitioning hurt you. They don't give a fuck about people who detransition. They just want to use us and they stop "caring" when we stop being useful.
Hell, they stop listening when you say something they don't want to hear. Which detrans stories get into the mainstream media & debates about transition are very limited. So much gets filtered out because it doesn't fit transphobic narratives that justify control of trans people.
So many people who loved my writing when they could use my detransition story to "prove" how harmful transition are now treat me like I'm "crazy" & dismiss my experiences since I started talking about how detransitioning hurt me. They never cared about my suffering or well-being.
