A young man (D) sadly lost his mum who died suddenly. Overnight he became head of the house & carer for his nan.
Overwhelmed with grief & responsibility he committed two relatively minor crimes, was charged & pleaded guilty.
2/5 Fortunately, the judge understood his crimes were completely out of character & were driven by tragedy & desperation so sentenced D to a community order.
Part of the order required D to enrol in & engage with a crime diversion scheme.

knowing that employment is key to reducing reoffending and providing stability, @PreventCrimeWMP referred D to ex-seed.co.uk to help him.
I worked with D to produce a CV & Personal Disclosure Statement which explained his background story & hopes for the future.
4/5 Being a young man with limited employment history, however, D needed extra qualifications to be appealing to employers.
I reached out to fellow Corbett Network member, Inside Job, (who I also deliver prison training with). beatingtime.org/inside-job/ @ladyvalcorbett@Beating_Time
5/5
Inside Job paid for D to complete CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) get his card & continued to encourage & advocate for D until he gained permanent employment.
Good teamwork all round, partnerships do work...D IS HAPPY & THRIVING
Sweeping reforms designed to catch child killers and terrorists (and sold to the public as such) generally catch lesser offenders, as was the case with the devastating IPP sentence.
