How did 1,000+ internet strangers come together to work on web3 education?

I want to share 5 community building lessons that I learned from this journey... Image
1/ Lesson 1:
Have a clear mission

Our mission is simple:
Help 1 million people transition to web3.

From the tweet below, I knew that people needed great education to understand this space:

2/ Lesson 2:
It's a lonely road early

I created a new community and grew it to 1,500 members in a week.

Yet, 95% of the people who joined were lurkers. It felt like talking to an empty room.

In hindsight, I should have grown the community slower with proper onboarding.
3/ Lesson 3:
Make onboarding a priority

Onboarding is VERY important - nobody likes joining a Discord server with 20+ random channels.

Here are some baby steps that we took to improve onboarding (learning from @patel0phone)...
4/ Community onboarding tips:

1. Show only a few channels to newbies (e.g., start-here, intros, how-to-help)

2. In how-to-help, explain how a new member can help if they have:

0-5 hours/week
5-9 hours
10+ hours

3. Focus on activating the few people who care, which leads to.. Image
5/ Lesson 4:
Find core contributors

Don't focus on how many members your community has.

Focus on activating core contributors who care and can get shit done:

6/ For example, I somehow got to work with five amazing designers:

@wendalewis
@mattjss
@haegeez
@rach3llee
@donnyguy

+ 1 dev (@louiesakoda) who built our entire website.

They even made community emojis... Image
7/ If you find people who are competent AND care about the mission, do everything that you can to help them:

1. Use a gratitude channel
2. Amplify their tweets
3. Make them co-owners

Whether you're building a company or a DAO - talent matters.
8/ Lesson 5:
Kindle small fires

A token won't magically help 1K+ people work together.

Instead, a community should have many small, empowered teams.

If you see a small team forming organically, stoke the fire:

9/ To recap, here are 5 lessons from building a community:

1. Have a mission
2. It's a lonely road early
3. Make onboarding a priority
4. Find core contributors
5. Kindle small fires

Don't focus on the crazy crypto prices - here's how you can:

1. Earn 15% APY on Bitcoin + Ethereum
2. Earn 20% APY in stablecoins

This is not financial advice but here's what I've found...
1/ To earn 15% APY on BTC + ETH, you can use @haruinvest. Other CeFi platforms like Celsius and BlockFi only offer 3-6% APY.

Unlike other CeFi, Haru uses an arbitrage strategy. You can read about it here: medium.com/haruinvest/int… Image
2/ Haru *is* probably risky but I take confidence in that:

1. My smart friends have been using it for years

2. They recently surpassed $1B in total transaction volume

3. Their customer support is 💯

You can use my referral link to get +0.2% APY: app.haruinvest.com/signup?r=PETER

You need a crypto wallet to start your web 3 journey.

Here's a single thread the explains like I'm five:

1. What is a wallet?
2. Which wallet should I get?
3. How do I set up a wallet?
4. How do I secure my wallet?
5. Bonus: Eth domain

Let's dive in...
creatoreconomy.so/p/curious-begi…
1/ What is a wallet?

A wallet stores your:

1. Public key to send and receive transactions.

2. Private key that proves you own the assets in your address. Your seed phrase lets you easily access your private key.

Never share your private key or seed phrase with anyone.
2/ Wallets don't store your actual assets. Instead, they let you access your assets on the blockchain using these keys.

If your wallet was your bank account, your public key would be your account number and your private key would be your pin.
