THREAD: Omicron is spreading rapidly. Sports teams are finding out the hard way.

52 players have gone into the NBA’s health and safety protocols this month, and the NFL has placed more than 100 players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list this week alone.
At the center of the NBA’s COVID troubles is the Chicago Bulls. After a team outbreak, the Bulls were down to a league minimum of 8 players — forcing them to sign two players via hardship exception.

One of those players entered health and safety protocols before his first game.
Number of NBA players in health and safety protocols by team:

• Bulls: 10
• Nets: 7
• Lakers: 5
• Kings: 5
• Knicks: 4
• Bucks: 4
• Celtics: 3
• Clippers: 1
• Grizzlies: 1
• Heat: 1
• 76ers: 1
• Raptors: 1
• Cavaliers: 1
• Warriors: 1
Once players enter the NBA's protocols, they must quarantine for 10 days or until they return 2 negative PCR tests taken 24 hours apart.

So far, the NBA has only had to postpone two Chicago Bulls games, although some teams have announced they will reduce arenas to 50% capacity.
Over in the NFL, amid an unprecedented number of positive tests, all teams have been placed in enhanced COVID protocols.

At least 85 players have tested positive since Monday, up from 29 players in the previous 2 weeks.
The Browns had 4 defensive players test positive yesterday, bringing the total of Cleveland players with COVID to 20, including half the starters.

The Washington Football Team now has 21 total players on the list.
The NBA and NFL have released updated COVID guidance, including increased testing and masking regardless of vaccination status.

The changes are expected to run at least through the holiday season.
Important to note: These numbers are literally growing by the second.

“I’ve tried everything humanly possible. I can’t get there.”
.@BretBaier: "Your number at the beginning was $1.7T. Where is the disconnect that you are now a "no"?

Sen. Manchin (D-WV): "At $1.5T is where I thought the most that we could do if we just did it & basically took care of the things that we thought were the highest priorities."

.@SenWarren (D-MA): “Have Amazon’s logistical operations improved, or have things just gotten worse …?

Courtenay Brown, Amazon Associate at NJ fulfillment center: “It’s definitely gotten worse … Amazon really doesn’t care very much … it’s all about speed and quantity.”
@SenWarren Amazon fulfillment center worker Courtenay Brown says employees are “terminated” when they attempt to prioritize quality over quantity:

“For Amazon, this only means they’re getting rich … Workers cannot do their jobs well because Amazon wants to make more money."
“We work until our bodies are basically, they're past the emergency stop button — we delay bathroom breaks, we miss lunch ... We would literally take like 30 seconds to cry it out for a little bit, and then get right back to it.”
