Imagine having the gall to describe a Talib takeover, a chaotic evac where Afghans fall to their deaths off planes, a suicide bombing killing 13 Americans & 200 Afghans, & a U.S. drone strike killing 10 Afghan civilians as “safely & effectively drew down our diplomatic presence.”
Sociopathic.
And of course no one at @CFR_org called him out for it — not @RichardHaass and not anyone else in the audience, despite Jake Sullivan giving a speech & taking questions for an hour.
It was a shit show. The government collapsed. The Taliban took over. 13 Americans died. Many dozens of Afghans died. We got tens of thousands of unvetted Afghans out and left hundreds of Americans & tens of thousands of Afghan allies behind. Anyone pretending otherwise is lying.

I’m shocked that Strzok read something anti-Trump & ran w/ it instead of checking if it was true, but Meadows book is referring to rioters trying to tear down Andrew Jackson statue in Lafayette Park in late June 2020 — St. John’s arson & Trump photo next day were 3 weeks earlier! Image
Pete ain’t so great with the timeline of investigations that he himself opened, so I guess it is a little much to expect him to get other basic timelines right.

my on-the-ground report from my visit to NYC so far — the buildings remain tall. lots of people. will update as I learn more.
update: tall buildings. lots of people.
My grandfather was a NYC cop for decades, my dad was born in the Bronx, and I am walking around staring up at the pretty buildings around Times Square. I bring shame on my family.

So, DUNE. Along with Lord of the Rings, it has been among my fav books since childhood, & like the LOTR films, tho it made changes to the source material I was ??? about, it also similarly captured the gist & feel & power & imagination of the book, & what else can you really ask?
I like that DUNE took its time, focused on both world-building & story-building instead of rushing thru the whole book in one film, brought space & the future to life w/ care in ways akin to Blade Runner, 2001, Interstellar, etc., & did its best to capture the themes of the book.
Definitely see it in IMAX. Powerful.

I don’t know much about it but I’m excited about seeing the Sandworm movie in IMAX tonight.
(Dune is one of my all-time favorite sci-fi books. If they messed it up — again — I may riot.)
The sandworms in Beetlejuice are indeed better than the sandworms in Dune tho

NEW: Garland's son-in-law is co-founder of Panorama, which supports 13 million students in 21,000 schools. The company promotes "social-emotional learning" but admits that's just a "vehicle" to promote "equity" & "dismantle" things like "systemic racism."

washingtonexaminer.com/news/critics-q…
Becky Barstein, who gave the Panorama presentation (titled "SEL as Social Justice: Dismantling White Supremacy Within Systems & Self"), claimed that “the grooves of racism in my [her] brain sometimes are so deep” due to unconscious bias & systemic racism.

washingtonexaminer.com/news/critics-q…
Panorama CEO Aaron Feuer said George Floyd death was "another consequence of this long history of systemic racism" & "education represents one of the most important levers for change" & his org is “in a unique position to make change to our institutions.”
