Sponsors cancelling their sponsorship and demanding their products be removed from #Snowdrop after being contacted by Korean fans
- clothing brand g*******
- organic grain brand ss******
- **** electronics
(Censoring names bc I don’t want them to receive backlash)
The grain company rep was particularly apologetic. They were ashamed that their products had been used in Snowdrop as they themselves had been a part of democratization protests in their youth. They added they had also signed the petition.
One clothing brand B******* replied that they had never sponsored Snowdrop, but had been listed erroneously. They added that their lawyer was contacting the production to request a correction.
Tea brand Teazen just posted an apology as well. They had not sponsored the production but had a basic exposure ad, which they were cancelling.
Ceramics brand ********** posted an apology in their blog for providing products to Snowdrop. They have requested their logo be struck from the credits and their products returned.
I’m fucking dead people are asking SBS to report on Snowdrop because JTBC did a whole report titled “the dangers of history distortion as seen from SBS’s Joseon Exorcist” back in March
Fans have also contacted Disney Plus Korea, where the customer rep replied that they had already made a strongly-worded report about the matter to their superiors after receiving many complaints. The rep also added that they were personally angry about the distortion of history.
The rep ended this solemn conversation with:
“Thank you for using Disney. Have a Magical Day.”
Organic grain brand receives an explosive number of orders following their cancellation and apology for their collab with Snowdrop. They’re a small business and they say this is the first time they’ve received this many orders in 10 years.
Furniture company M****** has put out a statement abt their work with Snowdrop. They state that they continuously contacted the production to get more information abt the drama’s story, but never received any feedback.
“When we expressed concern during the earlier controversy before the drama aired, the production reassured us that there was no problem…
When we got our products returned to us after shooting, they had been severely destroyed.”
“We have not received any compensation for the damages, neither did were we sent the promotional images for our products that had been promised.”
The company has requested an end to the sponsorship and asked that their products be shown as little as possible.
News report on the chatter swirling around Disney+ and what decision they will make about Snowdrop n.news.naver.com/mnews/article/…
“An industry insider said that, based on his knowledge, Disney+ was holding internal discussions on the controversy around Snowdrop as it has led to a national petition and growing animosity.”
“Considering the example of Joseon Exorcist, which was canceled after 2 eps, Disney+ is examining the situation carefully.”
Another furniture company posts on their instagram account saying they never sponsored the drama, and they have requested that their logo be struck from the credits.
What is wrong with this production team
Responding to customer inquiries, delivery app company has cancelled the ads they had bought for Snowdrop’s time slot (ads not in the show but shown before/after)
Health drink company CEO on insta on dropping Snowdrop sponsorship
“We were told that any problematic contents would be edited and pass review before broadcast. We apologize for not checking in more detail…. Our logo will be struck after Ep 3.”
Puradak chicken has withdrawn their sponsorship. They had originally supported the show because their main model was in the series lead role.
I realized I don’t rly need to censor names and protect when the sponsors are uhhh major corporations lol
But I did feel protective of the small businesses, esp the ones who are run by older folks who aren’t tech savvy or good at researching stuff like this. The grain company is all older folks from a village in a southern province 😭
Lighting company and clothing brand withdraw sponsorships. The clothing brand has requested the return of their products.
I think the impact of these withdrawals will all be quite different. Some companies sold their products to the company and cannot get them back. Some only rented their products to Snowdrop and - according to some statements - have not received them back in good condition.
*Personally* I would like to see a reflection of the current sponsorship model; at times dramas are so beholden to PPL to the point that it ruins the show, and other times the sponsors have no idea what they’re getting themselves into.
My mom was telling me how Jirisan the drama was essentially ruined by all the camping gear PPL and it rly sounded egregious :-/
On the other hand it’s clear some of these small, local businesses did not have the resources to do due diligence.
Centrum (health supplement), mattress, men’s clothing, Hite Jinro (liquor), shoes, lighting, and publishing companies request logo strike from credits
Daelasoo Construction to update on their position tomorrow morning (KST)
*correction, Centrum stopped their ads from running in Snowdrop’s time slot

Tfw you have sex with a woman’s husband because her twitter thread about historical atrocities in Korea got a bunch of retweets and now you’re here bouncing on his dick
For the way I translate on here, see pinned tweet.
TTL;DR sometimes I get paid to translate for a news article. Sometimes I do it for free for a friend.
Every single translation I’ve posted on twitter has been for free.
Oh yeah there’s a LOT of BDSM fanfic in Korea, like more than I was aware of
Every single one of you, stop mentioning my friend in your replies and apologize in the comments here, on your main accounts. Their life is their own, they do not need to be dragged into this.
“World Citizens” (세계시민선언), a youth nonprofit that works to support citizens around the world resisting government violence, has warned they will file an injunction in court against Snowdrop.
They describe the drama as a clear insult against the efforts of those who fought dictatorship, and argue that it could signal to other dictatorships that state violence can be glorified.
The org continued, “The broadcasting of Snowdrop on major distribution platforms gives a mistaken view of history to generations who have not experienced it. It can also cause them to justify glorification of state violence in order to defend their celebrity.”
The family of Park Jong-cheol, who was the student who died after brutal water torture by the NSA, has spoken out about how #Snowdrop is causing harm to victims of the NSA.
Park’s family point out that there are still-living families of those who were accused of being North Korean spies and tortured, and the drama recreates the narrative that was used against victims
Essentially, it justifies why the NSA did what they did.
