STANDBY: Feds are about to argue for 60-day prison sentence for Jan 6 defendant Israel Tutrow of Indiana, who pleaded guilty to misdemeanor.. was accused of wearing body armor vest & bringing knife into Capitol

Tutrow has criminal history & told FBI he wore armor to "look cool"
Tutrow will argue Jan 6 was "A coup attempt fomented intentionally by right wing actors who used data mining and psychological manipulation. Vulnerable individuals were identified & persuaded through the internet that it was their patriotic duty to come to (DC) to support Trump"
Defense is arguing Tutrow was young and immature on Jan 6.. and has since matured into a confident "young man"

Tutrow is seeking a sentence that spares him prison. The knife he was carrying, per feds, is going to complicate matters for him

Here's a phrase I haven't heard yet in Jan 6 cases

In argument for leniency, defense attorney says Tutrow is learning "to move away from Fox News" as a sole source of information

"Learning"... not "learned"
Tutrow is speaking now.... asking for leniency.. saying he's only voted once before.. and is not interested in politics

"I will forever regret going to the Capitol"

"I meant no harm"
Tutrow says he's gotten clean.. no drugs or alcohol. And he says he's staying away from social media.

Now it's the judge's turn to speak and issue sentence. She begins referencing the knife Tutrow brought into Capitol on Jan 6
Judge says Tutrow's honesty about Jan 6 has been "evolving".. but credits him for deleting social media account and for turning himself in after a warrant was issued

Interesting to hear: Deleting a social media account cuts in favor of a criminal defendant
Judge: "The harm of that day was substantial"

Subverting the will of the people with the will of the mob
Judge to Tutrow: "You and your friends don't get to cancel" out other Americans

"Your vote doesn't count more than" other Americans
Judge says she's troubled by prior criminal case against Tutrow, in which he was accused of getting a 16 y/o girl intoxicated... when Tutrow was 19 y/o at time
Judge credits Tutrow with finding employment and "educating himself" about politics by reading on the topic after arrest.

Judge Jackson to Tutrow: "I can tell by looking at you, that you've been going to the gym"
Judge is crediting Tutrow with beginning therapy and a medical regimen (Tutrow says he got two kittens to help with his mental health. Judge says he'll need more than that)
ALERT: Judge sentences Israel Tutrow to 36 months probation. No prison. No fine. $10 special assessment

Tutrow pleaded guilty to misdemeanor, acccused of wearing body armor vest and carrying knife into US Capitol on Jan 6
Home detention too, per judge

Interesting hearing right now in DC court

High-level Jan 6 defendant Mark Ponder, who's in DC jail, wants trial fast & soon. Feds say evidence is ready

But defense lawyer says he needs more time, Ponder's upset about it. Judge is urging patience due to COVID paralysis of court Image
Judge tells Ponder there are many other defendants (including non-Jan 6 defendants) who've been locked up awaiting trial "a lot longer than you" .... for years

Judge says the January 2022 trial date for Ponder is *not* going to happen. COVID restrictions are slamming court
There's a bigger message here. There are roughly 18 trials on the calendar in US Capitol attack cases so far. In 2022.

Trial dates are at grave risk of slipping. Amid this surge. Convening juries and court staff is going to be.... complicated

Feds to seek 4 months home detention
Prosecutors cites @gwupoe research that the average age of Jan 6 defendant is 39 years old.

Wickersham.... is 81

Alex Jones has sued the US House Select Jan 6 Committee, seeking a block on the subpoenas against him & AT&T for his phone records

He calls committee "now lawfully constituted" and calls himself a "controversial American journalist"
"In a well-known episode..."

In his civil suit, Alex Jones gives his description of January 6... and references the arrest of one of his INFOWARS employees (who coincidentally had a court appearance this afternoon)
House Select Jan 6 Committee had asked Jones to turn over all communications w/ Donald Trump between Dec 19, 2020 & Jan 31, 2021

In his civil suit Jones defends Trump claims about election.. "Questions all fairly prompted by the first mass mail-in voting presidential election"
