#TheOmicron, I call it the current OG of Covid, is quite the eish! Last night, I called 10 paediatricians to come to theatre to receive a newborn this morning. 8 out the 10 were coughing, some in isolation, having confirmed Covid. They are the first line of fallen heroes!
See, the babies they see in clinic brought them all manner of bugs. This is despite the babies themselves recovering rapidly and moving on to the next bug. So our baby doctors are generally out of commission, over Christmas!
So, dear adults who are the parents of these babies, you and the paediatricians, same whatsapp group. You have contracted Omicron and recovered, you currently have Omicron or you are brewing it I the cauldron that us your home!
In addition, all the pals you spent last evening with in the pub already caught it from you, your office mates have it, your parents whom you had lunch with last weekend, your churchmates too. Essentially, this is a California wildfire.
The good news is that so far, Omicron spreads like a broken dam but it's severity is way below anything we have seen before. Our ICU beds are still fairly empty and out covid units are manageable.
So just know that by January 2022, we shall all be covid survivors. I mean ALL OF US!
In addition, just because the Omicron is not severe, does not mean you cannot find yourself staring at the ceiling with a non-rebreather mask slapped on your face. Why? Because none of us comes with a label that tells Covid to slap politely. It checks in, then decides what to do.
So yeah, stay safe this holiday season. And please note, Santa is also down with Omicron this Christmas, so yeah, don't whine about no gifts.
