new age never really went away it just became the default spiritual system. explicitly identifying with crystals and people channeling entities from the pleiades then leading seminars in holiday inn conference rooms just became tacky but its the same continuum and heritage
when that tony robins doc came out a while ago i almost wrote something about it because at his seminars, he uses the term God sometimes. this is actually very interesting because no one would describe it as religious, but it fits and works because of the larger spiritual system
the thing about understanding that new age is actually the default spiritual system now is that it makes analyzing certain things about the cultural landscape way easier - because it gives you the puzzle piece that people dont need to explicate or explain new age to each other.
it just is the natural framework people intuitively understand. as two people meeting in tibet wouldnt have to get on the same page about existing in a buddhist cosmology, thats how new age functions in this time and place, unless you’re part of an excluded group.
so when most people think about new age they’re imagining kind of a post hippie girl doing yoga with a big crystal or something but its not really like that. its an omnipresent epistemic + cosmological + sociological folk religion. a default. once u see it u cannot unsee it. (gm)
