The media spent the entire holiday season chasing ratings and page views by scaring you into believing Christmas gifts would arrive late, even as Biden was taking steps to prevent that. Now that gifts are arriving on time as expected, the media is pretending it's shocking news.
The mainstream media uses this tactic ALL THE TIME. It spends weeks or months getting ratings by pretending a bad thing is going to happen, then when it doesn't happen, it gets another round of ratings by pretending it's breaking news that the bad thing didn't happen after all.
Remember when the media spent three weeks acting like the DOJ was never going to indict Steve Bannon, and then labeled it "breaking news" when the indictment happened? It was always going to happen. And they knew it. But hey, let's add phony reality show style suspense to this.
These media antics are harmful, and not just because it disinforms people in the moment. It creates lasting false impressions. People trust Garland far less than they should, because they think he decided not to indict Bannon and then just caved at the last minute or something.
Because of the media's antics, people have far less faith in Biden's abilities than they should. They don't know that he took smart steps to make sure Christmas gifts arrived on time, and instead they think Biden blew it and the gifts showed up on time by through luck.
Hell, the media spent the start of 2021 convincing everyone that a lame but sort of harmless Joe Manchin was instead an evil supervillain, and once he realized the public was convinced he was going to do cartoon evil stuff, he decided to just start playing the part. On and on.
The mainstream media, in its quest for ratings and page views, turns non-stories into doomsday scandals, and turns mediocre situations into disastrous ones. And since Trump left and stopped handing them free ratings, their ratings-driven antics have gotten so much worse in 2021.
And then there's the media narrative that 'Trump will run in 2024 and he'll win no matter what'
Nevermind that he's visibly in sharp decline, that his own handlers have spent all year trying to keep him hidden for this reason, and that he's going to prison in New York.
It's not just that the media is chasing ratings by pushing an untrue narrative about Trump and 2024. It's that in order to keep that narrative intact, the media is (mostly) downplaying or ignoring important stories about Trump's health, legal troubles, etc, that conflict with it.
How can Trump be viable in 2024 if he's near death, half senile, or in state prison? He can't. How can Trump win in 2024 with polls that say half of Republicans want a different nominee? He can't. So that all gets ignored, because it threatens the "Trump 2024" ratings gold mine.
Again, these false narratives are harmful, and not just because it disinforms the public in the present. This false Trump 2024 narrative gives Trump cover for running a faux "2024 campaign" in 2021 and 2022 and pocketing the money.
And of course when we reach a point in 2022 or 2023 where it's just so painfully obvious that Trump isn't going to be a legitimate 2024 candidate, and the media can't hype it for ratings anymore, they'll say it's shocking "breaking news" that Trump won't be in the 2024 race.
At which point we'll have a whole new problem, because the corrupt Republicans who will be actual 2024 presidential candidates will have gotten cover from all the media's focus on Trump, and thus won't be properly vetted for scandals early on enough.

Trump supporters are garbage. But there's no one I look down on more than those on our own side who spend all their time racing each other to see who can declare the most loudly that "our democracy is dead." They're trying even harder to kill democracy than any Trump supporter.
What makes these types such monsters is that they know our democracy is at risk, but instead of trying to save it, they're trying to demotivate the rest of us from bothering to fight and save it – just so they can look cool by declaring that it's "dead." These folks are DERANGED.
The kicker is that they KNOW BETTER, and they're still doing everything they can to murder our democracy. At least Trump goons are so whacked out, they don't even know what they're talking about. But the defeatists on our own side know exactly the damage they're doing.
Keep in mind the 1/6 committee already has a treasure trove of evidence on Jim Jordan or it wouldn't be targeting him. It's what the committee has been doing all year: working with tons of lower level witnesses to amass evidence against people like Jordan so it can go at them.
Someone like Jim Jordan isn't going to voluntarily cooperate and/or incriminate himself just for fun. Committee has to go into it with enough evidence to make him realize he's screwed so he'll flip, or catch him in a lie so it can get him for perjury, or make contempt stick.
This tactic worked against Meadows. The committee made him realize it already had him nailed, so he decided to give up and cooperate and turn over everything he had on himself and others. By the time he chickened out, the committee had already gotten a ton out of him.
Joe Manchin has always sucked. But he never once cast a deciding vote against the Democrats in his career, until the media (MSNBC in particular) spent all of January goading him into it. The media manufactured this drama for ratings – and that should outrage you beyond words.
The minute the democrats won the special election and it became clear they’d have a 50 seat majority, the media began pushing the notion that Manchin would be a power broker because he’d go against his own party. Manchin took the bait. Now he’s in over his head and despised.
Sinema, the asshole, also decided to take the bait and try to see what she could get from her party by holding it hostage. Now she’s also way in over her head and her career is likely over.
If Donald Trump wants to hold a press conference on January 6th, 2022, let him. No one should air it live. But he's in such a frantic place, he'll only end up saying incriminating things that make it easier to finish him off. We have to stop cowering to his every impotent move.
"But if he opens his mouth he'll trigger another organized violent attack and this time it'll succeed!"
No and no. Trump doesn't control the military or law enforcement anymore, so he can't clear a path for his idiot goons to carry out a successful attack.
"But he shouldn't be allowed..."
At the risk of stating the obvious, the words "shouldn't be allowed" don't appear anywhere in the Constitution or the law. You can't just magically stop a guy from holding a press conference because you think he might say bad things.
Each time Steve Bannon gets up and announces that he's going to take over the country, he does a belly flop and ends up getting arrested. The only reason this clown still has oxygen is because we keep giving it to him by cowering to his delusional threats. Just laugh in his face.
There are real threats to this country, many of which we should be fighting against every day. But Steve Bannon magically waiting an army of werewolves and seizing control of the federal government is a joke. Even he knows it. He just says this stuff to raise money from idiots.
The media and the pundits also surely know that Bannon's laughable threats are just nonsense he comes up with so he can line his pockets. But "Bannon is an evil genius who's going to take over the country and we're doomed" is a ratings-friendly narrative, so it always gets hyped.
Not long ago it was reported that the DOJ is deep into investigating Sidney Powell for using the Big Lie to fraudulently raise money. Now it turns out the 1/6 committee is looking to criminally refer Donald Trump to the DOJ for the same thing. That’s probably not a coincidence.
It’s unclear how these pieces fit together.
Is the committee going this route because it saw the headline and realized the DOJ is willing to criminally prosecute the election overthrow on a financial fraud basis?
Have the DOJ and the committee been coordinating this all along?
Keep in mind that when news leaks about a still-in-progress federal investigation, it’s usually just an isolated piece of the story. Would the DOJ really go after just Powell, a somewhat minor player in the Big Lie, while ignoring everyone else who fraudulently fundraised on it?
