Here's what a moving truck taught me about building an app

Yea, it sounds weird.

So this week I moved to Paris (I was in the south of France)

We rented a moving truck.

But we didn't do this randomly!

We compared different companies renting trucks.

We didn't have a lot of furniture, so we just needed a small one.

So we tried to find one.

And we notice something strange.

2 companies were renting a truck for €200, a small one.

But we found a company doing it for €90.

What's strange is that the company doing it for €90 had only big trucks.

So we were paying less to get more.

In theory, that sounds amazing!

And most SaaS Founders think that.

1st problem: Why is that so cheap?

We pay less and have more. What is wrong?

And your users will think this too if you're giving more than your competitors for a smaller price.

But this company had an unfair advantage...

I already knew the company. It wasn't a scam.

Privileges of being in the market for a long time.

That's why I still chose it.

But what if the company was new?

I wouldn't have chosen it!

It's the same with your users.

But it's not over yet!

2nd problem: We paid for a bigger truck, but we only used 50% of it.

So now the problem wasn't the low price.

I felt like I was paying for something I wasn't using 100%!

That's the same when you're trying to add more features to "give more value".

Your users won't use it and start to think they are paying for something they don't use.

So ok for that truck, I only paid once.

But if I had to pay it every month, I'm sure I would have churned fast.

That's weird, right?

I paid less for a bigger truck!

But wasn't satisfied just because I was using 50% of it!

So think about this little story next time you want to add more useless features.
