Are you inverted? Do you believe up is down and down is up?

I’ve used this analogy a couple of times before, but pilots can experience a phenomena called spatial disorientation in which they believe and feel the opposite of what is real.

Do you believe those who lie to you?
In the last two years, a significant portion of the country has come to believe that people who are lying to them are telling the truth and that people who are telling them the truth are lying.

Inversion.
The thing is, our senses can be fooled. We can really, truly believe with all our heart that something is true when it’s absolutely false. It feels right. But it’s really not.

Which is why pilots are trained to trust the instruments. Our feelings are more likely to be incorrect.
What are our instruments?

The ultimate instrument, especially for those of us who call ourselves Christians, is God’s Written Word, the Bible. If something someone says contradicts the God’s Word (the ACTUAL TEXT, not someone’s interpretation of it) that thing is not correct.
If you’re an American citizen, and especially if you call yourself things like “Patriot” and “Constitutional Conservative” is our US Constitution. Again, what it ACTUALLY SAYS and not some political hack’s summary of it.
And as just a person who can think critically, another instrument is objectively verifiable facts. What’s the temperature right now? It has a precise value. It’s a fact. It’s not a matter of subjective opinion.
You can’t be a student of the Bible and believe that God’s mission for the Church is to fulfill some secular political or nationalistic goal. It says otherwise.

You can’t believe from reading the Bible that God opposes vaccines. It’s completely silent on the topic.
You can’t be a person who has any familiarity with the US Constitution and believe that a President who loses an election will be “reinstated” during the term of the person who succeeds them. There is no such concept in the Constitution. It’s not a thing.
And if you claim to be a rational person, you have to accept the idea that there are such things as non-negotiable facts. Today has a date. We are in a certain place on earth (which, by the way, is a sphere). There are absolute facts, which are not relative or subject to opinion.
Trust the instruments. Which means you need to be familiar enough with them to read them and know what they say.

Because, again, it’s possible to completely, absolutely believe something and feel it deep within. And be wrong.

Another way to look at Christmas - for those who are worried about student debt.

Every one of us has incurred a debt that we can never pay off. No matter how hard we work.

And today we celebrate the day God announced Loan Forgiveness!
Every one of us has incurred this form of debt called sin. What is sin? The word literally means “to miss the mark.” We’re not perfect. Our great-great … great grandad, Adam, chose to disobey God. And all of us have chosen to do the same thing. Which isn’t inconsequential.
The Bible says:
“… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23, NIV).

So what? Well, sin costs. We’ve all racked up a balance.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans 6:23, NIV)

Personally, I think one of the worst things to happen to the Democrats in 2021 was when the Senate Parliamentarian said that they could pass more than one bill through the reconciliation process.

Why?
Because at that moment, they seem to have become obsessed with stuffing everything (including some very good and very popular ideas such as Universal Pre-K) into one mammoth piece of legislation. The kind that never gets passed by one party with no margin for internal dissent.
If you look at the massive pieces of legislation that have been passed over the last century, almost never is it done by one party working without any cooperation from the other party, in a situation in which even one "NO" vote is one too many.

Dear everybody who is tweeting #ManchinMustGo:

Have you ever been to West Virginia? Ever looked at the election results there? Ever seen the polls? Know anybody who has ever been there? Do you think the people there think about politics just like you do?

Please get a grip.
Let’s play out the scenarios:

Scenario A: Dems launch a holy war on Manchin right now.

1) Manchin then switches parties. Dems need him more than he needs them.

2) Mitch McConnell snatches the gavel from the Democrats.

3) You yell “this isn’t fair!”
Scenario B: Dems primary Manchin, assuming he runs, and miraculously win.

1) The Dem nominee gets crushed in the General Election. Like, crater in the ground crushed. Amy McGrath crushed.

2) The GOP has an even better chance of taking the Senate.

3) You hell “this isn’t fair!”

The United States currently ranks #19 in the world in terms of the share of the population which has had two vaccinations against COVID.

This is not the government’s fault. The vaccines are readily available and anyone can easily get them. It’s OUR fault.
