Ganesh devotees chant Ganpati Bappa Morya during Ganesh Puja. But, do you know what’s the significance of this chant? Why we chant Ganpati Bappa Morya?

Ganesha is also known as Ganpati.

1/11 Image
The word Ganpati is a combination of 2 words – “Gana” which means ‘group’ or also ‘the attendants of Bhagwan Shiv’ and “Pati” which means the ‘ruler’ or ‘leader’. Hence “Ganpati” means “ruler of many” or ‘leader of the ganas of Shiv.’
‘Bappa’ means ‘father’.

2/11
But what is the reason of putting 'Morya' after 'Ganapati Bappa'.
There was a great devotee of Sri Ganesh in the 14th century by the name Morya Gosavi. He was originally from village called Shaligram in Karnataka where his devotion was looked upon as madness.

3/11 Image
He later travelled and settled in Chinchwad, near Pune and invoked the God with severe penance. Morya attained siddhi (special powers and blessings) at Shree Chintamani and his son built the temple to commemorate the event.

4/11
Its said that Morya also performed penance at Siddhivinayak in Ahmedabad& Moreshwar at Morgaon where he built a temple too.Tukaram Maharaj&others have endorsed Morya Gosavi as one who merged with Ganesha.The commencement of the Ashtavinayak pilgrimage is attributed to him.

5/11 Image
Its said that Sri Ganesh,happy with Morya’s devotion, appeared in his dreams & granted him a boon.Morya refused any material wealth and asked that his name be forever connected with the God himself.This can be said to indicate the inseparable bond between God & His devotee.

6/11
So Bhagwan Ganesh declared that every time His name is chanted, it should be followed by Morya. Thus the chant ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ came into being.

According to another legend, ‘Morya’ is said to be a combination of two words, ‘mhore’ and ‘ya’.

7/11 Image
In the Kolhapuri dialect ‘mhore’ and ‘ya’ collectively means ‘please come forward and bless.’
During the Ganesha processions, proceeding the immersion, devotees chant;

“Ganpati bappa morya, Pudhchya warshi lavkar ya;
Ganpati bappa morya, Mangalmurti morya”.

8/11
The first half of chant – “Ganpati bappa morya, pudhchya warshi lavkar ya” indicates that devotees are referring to Ganesha as the Leader of all Ganas (Ganpati) and a father (Bappa), who was worshipped by Morya Gosavi.

9/11
They are praying to Him that He should return soon (lavkar) next (pudhcha) year (warshi).

10/11
The second half – “Ganpati baapa Morya, Mangalmurti morya!” means that our Ganpati is the bestower of serenity and one who makes things ‘auspicious’ or ‘pure’ (mangal). ‘Murti’ means an ‘idol’ or ‘form’. So we can say ‘Purity in its ultimate form’ is our Ganpati.

Do you know?

In the Hindu way of life, this prayer is adopted while sitting on the bed at the time of waking up in the morning:

कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मिः करमध्ये सरस्वति।
करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम् ॥
🌺🌺🌺

And how many Hindus really follow this ? Image
The meaning is very simple: knowledge, power and wealth depend on the work with your hand.

कराग्रे = in the front of the hand i.e. fingers; वसते = lives;

लक्ष्मी = the divinity of prosperity (material and spiritual) [from the word lakShya = goal];
कर-मध्ये सरस्वती = in the middle of the palm; lives the divinity of learning, knowledge;

कर-मूले तू गोविंद: = in the wrist lives the universal guide of righteousness - Krishna.

प्रभाते कर दर्शनम = Every morning ones should looked at all these divine personalities...

One day the King of Puri went to visit Prabhu Jagannath. It was late in the evening and the temple was about to close. The flower vendor in front of the temple almost sold everything she had and was left with only one fragrant flower.

1/5 Image
The king asked for it and when she was about to give it to him, the wealthiest merchant came and offered double the rate. Then began an auctioning for that one flower. Eventually, the king gave his entire kingdom to her (which the merchant cannot equal or beat).

2/5 ImageImage
He offered the flower to Jagannath and slept in the village hall as a commoner. That night Prabhu Jagannath came in his dreams and asked him to remove that flower from his head. The weight of it was unbearable for the Prabhu.

Daitya Sudan Temple is located near the Lonar crater – the world’s only salt water lake in basaltic rock, believed to have been caused by a meteorite hitting Earth around 52, 000 years ago. ImageImageImage
It is surrounded by forests with a large variety of birds, particularly peacocks, owls, red-wattled Lapwings and ducks. A number of temples surround the lake, most of which stand in ruins today. ImageImage
According to local belief, Lonar derives its name from the demon Lonasura (also called Lavansura). This demon used to harass and trouble the local people so much that Bhagwan Vishnu descended on earth to vanquish him. ImageImageImage
