In Nov 2008 PA Trooper Jay Splain was honored at a county LE banquet as a hero, the officer of the year. The reason: He had shot and killed a suicidal man who allegedly pointed an Uzi submachine gun at him
Splain went on to fatally shoot 3 more in separate incidents, an extraordinary tally for an officer resp for patrolling largely rural areas with low rates of violent crime. All 4 who died were troubled, struggling with drugs, mental illness or both. In two cases, incl that of the
man with the Uzi, family members had called the police for help because their relatives had threatened to kill themselves.
The most recent death was last month, when Trooper Splain shot an unarmed man in his car
In the PA State Trooper agency’s more than a century of policing, no officer has ever been prosecuted for fatally shooting someone
In its review of Splain’s killings, The NYT found inconsistencies between the evidence of what occurred and what the state police said had happened. The officer appeared to have departed from police protocols in several of the fatal confrontations
In three of the encounters, the people killed were in vehicles. The trooper shot two unarmed drivers because they were allegedly using their vehicles as weapons, a frequent rationale
Lebanon County DA Pier Hess Graf said the shooting of Ms. Thome by Trooper #JaySplain and a rookie trooper was justified. She also said officers feared that Ms. Thome’s vehicle posed a danger to them or to other officers.
Weeks after a citizens advisory committee issued recomson how PA should address police-involved shootings, an investigative report focusing on a state trooper who has been involved in four fatal shootings.

Navarro says he and Steve Bannon were actually behind the last-ditch coordinated effort by rogue Republicans in Congress to halt certification of the 2020 election results and keep President Donald Trump in power earlier this year, in a plan dubbed the “Green Bay Sweep.”
At 1 p.m., @RepGosar and @tedcruz did exactly what was expected of them. It was a perfect plan. We didn’t even need any protestors, because we had over 100 congressmen committed to it.”
This last-min maneuvering never had a chance of decertifying the election results on its own, a point that he quickly acknowledges. But their hope was to run the clock as long as possible to increase public pressure on Pence to send the electoral votes back to 6 contested states

the US has already gone through what CIA IDs as the first 2 phases of insurgency — the “pre-insurgency” and “incipient conflict” phases — and only time will tell whether the final phase, “open insurgency,” began with Jan. 6. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/…
Things deteriorated so dramatically under Trump that the US no longer tech qualifies as a democracy. Citing a data set that the CIA task force has found to be most helpful in predicting instability and violence —the US is now an #anocracy btwn a democracy and an autocratic state.
U.S. democracy had received the Polity index’s top score of 10, or close to it, for much of its history. But in the five years of the Trump era, it tumbled precipitously into the anocracy zone; by the end of his presidency, the U.S. score had fallen to a 5
Donald Trump is the most openly anti-Semitic president in American history. There is no close second. While many presidents expressed anti-Semitic beliefs in private, only Trump has done so repeatedly, and usually in public. nymag.com/intelligencer/…
If you go through the list of classic anti-Semitic beliefs, Trump has checked off nearly every box:
— Jews are natural negotiators (“I’m a negotiator, like you folks”)
— Jews buy off politicians (“You want to control your own politician”)
2/
-Jews are loyal to Israel more than any other country where they live (in 2019, he described Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu to a group of American Jews as “your prime minister.” In 2018 and 2020, he referred to Israel as “your country.”)
