Jalil is one of the most talented people I have ever met, an incredible technical and creative thinker and a model friend and family man

Brilliant people hit their head against the wall over and over again for a few reasons

I'll explain a few below
number one

the "beginner mindset" required to get good at anything is paradoxical

as you get better, you realize how little you actually know

easy for your confidence tp decrease as your competence grows
number two

"working hard got me here so if i just work harder i'll get there"

there are hundreds of millions of people in the world working incredibly hard at something that will never have an exponential payoff

a shift is required when the ceiling is hit

one of my favorite projects of 2021 is @nounsdao

brilliantly subversive

took a while to click but the name is genius

everyone owns nouns and no one owns nouns

the two schools of thought on the future of IP

cease and desist (™) vs. copy and distribute (cc0)
naming is generally massively underappreciated

especially in technical circles

bitcoin is a good name

ethereum is a good name

hard for many to accept, but it matters
also bullish on any project that can produce a symbol as recognizable as a swoosh that compresses a massive amount of meaning into a nanosecond

arguing that inflation is good for people who sell their time by the hour is dumb

an education system that produces people who believe it is a tragedy
controversially, I don't think the money supply is as much of a problem as people's mental models for how to "earn" money or what is "worth" money
"I worked hard so I should get paid" is entering oxymoron territory when you think about it in the context of networks and technology

"I did something no one else can do so I should get paid"

or

"I stopped people from needing to work hard so I should get paid"

everything is a bet on network resilience

careers
sports teams
products
protocols

all networks are downstream of incentive structures

tldr; the best incentive structure wins
"why is my art/product/time/idea not selling?"

you are bad at network building
might sound brutal but it's true

the further the world moves toward a telecommunication network in all things (accelerated aggressively by covid)

the truer this concept rings

it's hard to think of a moment in time where there was a bigger opportunity for brands with legitimate cultural stature
nike's distribution is unfathomable

the chasm between people who recognize the nike swoosh and those who know what a non fungible token is may as well be 100%
