Krugman is right as usual. But I’ve based my 2022 equanimity on this:
Steady prosecution of coup participants.
Biden’s concentration on voting rights.
Astounding success of fossil fuels divestment.
Awareness that people always get apocalyptic in plague years.

Extremely interesting idea from indigenous scholar Grace Dillon:
“The Native Apocalypse, if contemplated seriously, has already taken place.”
Related, from D.W. Winnicott: “There are moments when a patient needs to be told that the breakdown, fear of which is wrecking his life, has already occurred.”
Americans need to be told this now.
Much of this is in my own column @latimesopinion on how to panic less this year, written mostly to cool off my own insomnia:
Learning from the riveting Conspirituality podcast that the anti-woke crowd believes it’s uniquely awake — either via the Waking Up app or the Q Great Awakening. Woke, wake, awakened. Maybe everyone who is not actually asleep is awake?
.@HayleyPhelan’s disturbing story of yet another psychopath guru is the latest entry in the conspirituality girl-boss fraud files.
I hope it helps a generation of white middle-class women enchanted by wellness & pyramid cults like Shambala, Bikram, Kundalini, & NXIVM to exit, regroup, & get real educations.
When this group because “disillusioned” with traditional religion, they evidently became re-illusioned — almost immediately.
“Reillusioned” might be a religious category in itself.
With that surprising phrase — “Our differences are precious and our similarities infinite” — @DrBiden smuggles a promising new political hypothesis into stock holiday wishes.
