1. In annual growth rate Gujarat was slower than Maharashtra Tamil Nadu and Bihar in the Modi years 1/9
2. The state had been in 3rd position nationally before Modi and remained 3rd during his years in office 2/9
3. Except for fewer than 200 villages in the state all had been electrified before Modi. 3/9
4. Gujarat had been 1.1 % ahead of the national average in the 1990s and 1.3% in the 2000s.
If there was such a thing as a Gujarat model under Modi it could at best make the claim to have improved GDP growth by 0.2 % 4/9
5. Unemployment rates were lower in Chhattisgarh & Karnataka than in Gujarat and FDI was higher in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka & Delhi during the Modi years. 5/9
6. Human Development indicators (HDI) fell under Modi
Gujarat dropped 5 places from 6th to 11th among States on HDI which looks at life expectancy, income and education. 6/9
7. Gujarat stood 21st in child malnutrition under Modi 7/9
8. The number of girls attending Secondary School in rural Gujarat was only 29% vs 93% in Kerala, for boys it was 45% vs 90% (Kerala).
Gujarat had the worst record amongst all states during Modi. 8/9
9. The Gujarat model was the term coined and promoted by Modi himself.
Without expanding on what it meant & without an explanation of how it was distinct.
It was marketing that no one bothered to question much!
