So, lets do a #COVID update since I have been either on vacation or...sick with COVID.
We are now at the highest new case/day of the entire pandemic. Omnicron changed everything. And the reality is we are still MASSIVELY UNDERTESTING, meaning these are undercounts.
Here is a heat map of hospitalizations, which nicely aligns with were the peak infections were about 3 weeks ago.
Here is the case map today. So we can expect continuing infections in the Northeast and Midwest for a while, but we are going to see surges of hospitalizations in the South again...likely by the middle to end of January.
Note there is little to no correlation between higher vax rates versus lower hospitalization rates.
That does NOT mean the vaccines aren't working. What it means is that there are still far too many unvaccinated, in every state.
I warned last summer that would be the case.
Unvaccinated are 13x more likely to die than vaccinated.
That said, Omnicron clearly has shown more break through infections, showing vaccines are only 5x more likely to stop infections. But there is still significant benefit.
Age is still the most important criteria.
That said, this wave is different; deaths are much lower, given the number of infections.
See these charts. First is NY, second FL. NY seems to have far more deaths this wave relative to Florida. Why?
My guess is Florida has more immunity to Delta. And Delta (not Omnicron) is causing most of the deaths in this wave; so NY's lack of Delta immunity is hurting them.
So what does this tell us? 1. Vaccines prevent deaths/hospitalizations, period. Not perfectly, but save hundreds of thousands of lives. 2. We are going to have more and more waves. 3. We have to stop living from wave to wave, and start to accept this is part of our world now.
No amount of mitigation is going to stop the next wave. No amount of vaccination is going to completely stop deaths. We should do as much as we can, but stopping society because of this is no longer a viable option.

Here is what a lot of people don't understand about India/Pakistan...
Indians don't think about Pakistan until tragedy strikes.
Pakistan, on the other hand, is always focused on India.
This is a slightl oversimplification... But not a huge one.
India is focused on beginning a modern world power, that wants to be a leader amount the nations of the world. They have their regional problems, but that's not what drives them.
Pakistan wants to focus energy about Kashmir and other border disputes.
India's biggest threat is China.
But they want to join the US, Japan, Australia and the free nations of the world to counter their power.
Every couple decades or so, a political party complete deludes itself, is tone deaf, and then self immolates.
That is what the Democrats just did.
The fact they did this in the face of a threat from Trump just goes to show how stupid our political elites always are.
Trump won for a simple reason: He is politically smarter than Dems politically. Its the same reason Clinton, Bush, Obama won in the past; he is just better at politics than his opponents.
Trump should have never won in 2016, but stayed the course, and Hillary was stupid.
Trump would've won in 2020 if not for a once in a century global pandemic.
And this year, in the face of a mentally questionable President and a untrusted Vice President, easily won.
Who is responsible for the Democrats' complete face plant?
5. DEI/Woke 4. Media 3. Antisemitic Left 2. Kamala Harris 1. Joe Biden
Nobody is more to blame than Joe Biden.
He promised to be a bridge to the future.
Instead in his arrogance he thought he could be a modern FDR, a transformative figure. What a joke.
Biden's failure to step aside, and to allow the Party to choose a successor, was a historic error, a selfish moment of personal privilege that cost the country greatly.
My problem with Biden's response to the vast surge in antisemitism on his watch is that his statements have been fine, but followed up with almost zero specific action by his administration. He has done as little as Trump did after Charlottesville.
Frankly, Biden and AG Merrick Garland have acted far, FAR more aggressively against conservative groups.
See how they responded to critics of schools. They were right to do this...but we've seen nothing of the sort against anti-semites. Why?
Let's see Garland's 'memo' targeting anti-semitic groups, largely pro-Palestinian ones, and then I might believe they are treating this threat reasonably.
Democrats are really, truly going to be stupid enough to let Donald Trump win, aren't they?
They are completely oblivious and trying to lose.
Let me count the ways:
1. Biden's age.
This is pretty obvious at this point. They are denying the reality of Biden's physical and mental decline. Voters see it.
2. Polling
Biden himself has said that the polls 'were wrong'. They aren't wrong. They are probably relatively accurate. Best case scenario, Biden is tied with a convicted, impeached opponent. Worst case, he is losing to that same clown.
