A journalist who worked at @CBC quits after 8 years, citing the repressive environment where liberal-left ideology and woke pieties dictate "reporting"and bar all dissent. She's going to Substack to do journalism without those constraints. When will people realize the crisis?
This isn't some right-wing journalist. She was long among the most left-wing. But the climate changed overnight.
This happened in newsrooms across the West. It's easy to dismiss and mock it if your ideology (liberalism) is the dominant one, but it's a major threat to journalism.
When corporate outlets tout the rigors of their "editorial process," all they mean is they scrub articles for anything that contravene establishment liberalism. Some manage to do good reporting there, but most outlets are just activist machines for Western left-liberal ideology.
Put another way: if what you want to write or "report" flatters and validates the core beliefs of Western liberals, there is *no editorial scrutiny" at all. Anything goes. That's why prestige outlets constantly spread disinformation.
The "editing process" is only for heretics.

Australian officials have been flamboyantly insisting they will bar tennis players from their country unless they are vaccinated or have a medical excuse.
Magically, the steadfastly unvaccinated Novak Djokovic - one of the planet's fittest athletes - qualifies for an exemption!
Several unvaccinated players who aren't as valuable economically to Australia and the Australian Open as Djokovic were forced to withdraw from the tournament.
What great luck that the world #1 has some grave medical condition as he wins Grand Slams!
It's almost like these rules are bullshit theater unrelated to the public health and therefore can be manipulated or ignored whenever it suits one with money or power: like the team of masked servants AOC had as she was groomed, unmasked, for the Met Gala
I'll be on Fox tonight, 8 pm ET, near the top of the hour, discussing the ongoing craving for more state power and even more repressive life restrictions in the name of fighting COVID, long after the COVID vaccine has been universally available in the US.
Two of the world's most influential leftist leaders meet:
- One emphatically opposes vaccine mandates and passports on the ground of bodily autonomy and worker rights.
- The other vehemently denounced Big Tech's banning of Trump as a threat to democracy
This was one of the saddest and most pathetic displays from a Trump-era liberal -- also courtesy of The Vox Explainer (he worked for @NeeraTanden at the time at CAP) -- but the Drama Queen Week we're in store for this week will make this look like sober and grounded reflection.
The dangers of NBC and CNN hiring a army of CIA, FBI, NSA, DOJ and Pentagon operatives are obvious. They turn these outlets into state TV. They use security state agents to "report" the news. And, as with Figliuzzi, they conceal the personal stake these agents have in the news.
If NBC or MNSBC were legitimate news outlets, they'd bar Figliuzzi from reporting on the Assange case at all. He led the FBI unit that coerced a mentally unwell teenager into making false accusations in exchange for immunity: accusations he now recanted.
Having unelected tech oligarchs ban duly elected members of Congress - or even the sitting President - from using their massive platforms is dystopian. Remember how many world leaders warned that FB & Twitter's banning of Trump was a threat to democracy.
As American liberals (including their journalists) yet again celebrate and express gratitude to tech giants for silencing their political enemies -- even elected officials -- compare their mindset to how the rest of the democratic world thinks to see how authoritarian they are.
US liberals don't realize what a rogue and authoritarian faction they are because their media outlets keep all dissent from them. When Big Tech banned Trump, it was denounced as dangerous by Merkel, Macron, UN & EU officials. Listen to Mexico's AMLO:
Today's @washingtonpost article on GOP attitudes on the 2020 election mentions a typically ignored fact: the overwhelming majority of Democrats believed in late 2017 that Trump "was not legitimately elected president." Hence, GOP views are "not novel."
Indeed, in 2019 -- 3 years into the Trump presidency -- Hillary Clinton herself proclaimed Trump an "illegitimate president," and accused the Republicans of having stolen the 2016 election. That prompted no pompous Atlantic essays on Democracy In Peril.™
But it's much worse than that. As late as 2018, 2/3 of all Dems - 2/3! - believed "Russia tampered with vote tallies in order to get Trump elected President."
One of the leading advocates of this conspiracy theory, @neeratanden, has a high-level WH job.
