Amsterdam (and The Hague) used to be one of the most tolerant and liberal cities

But things changed after the start of Covid ..

All demo’s are met with extreme police presence, and more serious police violence

During 1989 and 2000 I have been present, as a journalist, at dozens of demo’s and riots

Since 2000 I have followed them from behind a computer or TV screen with a special interest

Was shocked to see the different approach since March 2020

Many anti-gov demo’s forbidden

When more than a few people arrived they were cordoned off immediately.. many arrests made, even during peaceful demonstrations

The use of water canons and police dogs without any rioting ongoing ..

I am very curious who decided to change Dutch riot police policies?!

Good to see the outside world is shocked, while Dutch press, politicians stay mostly silent.

Special UN Human Rights ‘torture-commissioner’ Niks Melzer now calling for action as well ..
