If you're new to twitter

STOP using these cheap tricks to grow

They hinder your long term success and can even get you suspended or banned from twitter.

23 DON'Ts of Twitter
(I know you've been doing #17)

//Thread 🧵 //
1. Don't Use Hashtags.

You might think hashtags are extending your reach

but they're actually doing the opposite.

Twitter doesn't like hashtags - more than 2 and the algorithm subdues your tweet.

They also look spammy.

Best to avoid.
2. Don't Do Follow for Follow.

You're not helping yourself or others if you do this.

In fact, you're harming your authority in your niche: your engagement will still be low.

Be selective - only follow quality accounts.

EARN your followers with the value you give.
3. Don't Copy Tweets.

Who you trying to fool?

Steal the idea and reword the tweet.

Authenticity is prized on twitter.

If you can't add your spin to the same idea, you're NGMI.

"Good artist copy, great artist steal."
4. Don't Focus on Going Viral.

Some of the dumbest sh!t goes viral.

Turn on topics 'viral tweets' and you'll see what I mean.

Focus on giving value.

When one of your value tweets/threads go viral you'll gain many more followers than a dumb tweet.
5. Don't Post a Link under Somebody Else's Tweet.

I did this when I started...

Guess what happened?

Blocked by an amazing account immediately...

Just don't do it.
6. Don't ONLY Focus on the Timeline.

The best things in twitter happen off the timeline.

The timeline is the front office: the shop for consumers spend their attention on.

As a creator you need to work in the back offic: the DMs, the private groups on 3rd party apps.
7. Don't Rely on Engagement Groups.

This is a common trap many people get stuck in.

They are useful to get eyes on your content: it helps gives it initial reach.

But if you rely on them, you don't actually know who your real audience is.

Organic engagement is best.
8. Don't Support Garbage.

Support friends by critiquing their work.

If their work needs to improve, DM them with constructive criticism.

Don't RT and write 'fire thread 🔥' if it's crap...

you're encouraging more crap...

it also shows other you think crap is good...
9. Don't Try to Sound Smart.

The more you use big words, jargon or technical words, the less people will understand.

This is not to say they're dumb.

If YOU can't explain complex ideas in simple terms - you're not that smart.
10. Don't Buy a Bunch of Courses.

Buy 1 course and study it like it's the wholy grail - implement what it teaches you.

Make sure it's a good one otherwise you're wasting your time...

@creation247 11. Don't Be Fake.

Pretending you have a lot of money or be an expert when you're not and you're going to get caught out...

trust is a lot harder to get back once it's gone.

You can still be a learner and teaching what you know.
@creation247 12. Don't Buy Followers.

I don't mean paying for ads - that's okay if you know what you're doing.

I mean when that shady accounts asks if you want to buy 10,000 followers.

Ghost, scammy followers are a bad look.

Just Don't.
@creation247 13. Don't Be a Lone Wolf.

You might think it's better or somehow more noble to go at it alone.

But in reality you're hurting your growth.

Find mentors.
Network with people at your level.
Share ideas and grow.
Teach and help those behind you.

This is the way.
@creation247 14. Don't Be Too Broad.

The more niche the more people know why they come to you.

Many of us struggle with this (including myself).

But pick a niche or two and stick with it...

You should be passionate and ready to write about it every day.
@creation247 15. Don't Be So Boring.

Okay keep it niche...

But note the beauty of a personal brand:
you have the space to talk about whatever you want.

Want to discuss something outside your niche?
Sprinkle it into your content.
(don't flood it)

Share your life outside of twitter too.
@creation247 16. Don't Be Afraid to Post

There are two ways to approach content creation:
1. Post often and good enough content.
2. Post once with master content.

Modern day social media rewards the 1st kind.

Also, how do you know what a masterpiece is until you've created a ton?
@creation247 17. Don't Skip a Day of Tweeting

The algorithm punishes accounts that don't post regularly.

Look at a big account that's stopped posting for years and their engagement died.

If you know you're going to be off, make sure to schedule tweets.

tweetdeck.twitter.com is free
@creation247 18. Don't Talk About Censored Topics.

Sorry to say but complete freedom of speech doesn't exist.

Avoid opinions about race, religion, politics, cov!d.

These topics can get you suspended or banned.
@creation247 19. Don't Waste your Time with Haters/Trolls

These type of people just want to prove you wrong.

They're energy zappers.

Ignore them.
@creation247 20. Don't ONLY Connect with People You Agree with.

Curate your timeline doesn't mean live in an echo chamber.

Have emotionless arguments to test your logic.

If you get offended from disagreements you've got big problems.
@creation247 21. Don't Send Your Tweet Links in Twitter DMs

The twitter algorithm tracks links.

Sharing them in twitter DMs all the time it's a quick way to get suspended or banned.

(I have friends who were suspended for this)
@creation247 22. Don't Send Copied Messages in DMs

Twitter wants people to connect as humans.

Copied DMs send off a scammy impersonal vibe.

It's another quick way to get suspended or banned.
@creation247 23. Don't Use Bots for RTs

Another thing twitter hates.

If you see an account that gets xK's of retweets and they aren't that big, you know it's a bot RT.

They think it's helping...

until Twitter bans them.
@creation247 24. Don't Spread Negativity

90% of social media is negative.

This area of twitter doesn’t play on that.

Showing hardship and how you overcame is acceptable and inspirational.

But...
@creation247 Openly complaining about the world with no solutions is going to attract other complainers who get nothing done.

Keep that stuff private.

At 21, I only spoke English.

At 28, I speak English, Chinese and Spanish.

Here's 10 important lessons I learned from this experience.

>>>Thread🧵<<< Image
1. Memory and Thinking are Different

In school, they focus on the grammar of the language.

They focus on how to pass a test.

You're taught to remember rather than think in the language.

If you can't think in the language, you can't have a conversation.
2. Daunting Tasks Become Easier Over Time

Many people feel like they can't start learning a language because it's too difficult .

With any skill, if you commit to time to it every day, you can become exceptional.

I had no idea what I was doing. Now I speak Chinese daily.

You have a great idea

You write it, post it, and....

...nothing

It's not the idea that sucks, it's how you tweet it

15 Methods to 10x your Tweet Engagement
>>>Thread 🧵<<<
1. Use Spacing

You're not here to write an essay

You're here to grab attention

Spacing creates breaks and makes it easier to catch the reader’s attention

Spacing vs no spacing👇
2. Use short words and sentences

The less syllables per word the better

Use hemingwayapp.com to help you see what is too wordy

Use a thesaurus and dictionary to find a different word that fits better

Less syllables take less time to read - keep the readers engaged

This is about me

It put my soul into this, so before moving on, I'd greatly appreciate if you go back to the first tweet and retweet it

Let's get into it
I was born with rough beginnings....

I was a late birth, and I came out with a crushed skull...

At 9 months, I couldn't hold my own head up or crawl...

Luckily for me, a specialist separated my overlapping plates making my skull an almost normal shape
