Unsurprising, Kazakhstan leader is pulling from the authoritarian playbook, especially one used by Ankara's regime, claiming protesters are "terrorists," looks like will invite foreign troops from Russia to intervene
It's clear that all the authoritarian regimes, from Russia to Turkey, Iran and China would be wary of any protests in Kazakhstan, it could jeopardize their plans for Central Asia after the US left Kabul; the goal is a swath of authoritarianism to challenge US and West.
It's unfortunate of course because protesters from Iran to Turkey and other places have risked a lot over the last years...but they stand little chance. UN "human rights" council is largely controlled by dictators who also influence many human rights groups too.
Major media is also influenced deeply by authoritarian regimes these days, internet shut off easily, big tech social media usually silences dissent, prefers the dictators...it's kind of an impossible situation
It's unfortunate but the era of protesters and ability of average people to change things is rapidly ending. Not so long ago it was different, but the acceleration of control of authoritarians with media-big-tech-regimes-censorship has meant it's even harder for people to act.

The reporting on China's zero Covid strategy and lockdowns is interesting...basically it's critical of Beijing policy....yet when some western countries adopted extreme restrictions, like NZ, Australia or arbitrary chaotic policies stranding travelers there wasn't as much critiqu
I'm not in favor of either strategy, generally I was opposed to lockdowns, but I find it strange when reporting basically encouraged them or accepted them in some places...and then make it seem like China is exaggerating.
I remember in 2020 for instance the extreme virtue signaling, even when there was a socially distanced protest in Tel Aviv, I recall people on my social media circle slamming the people for "spreading" it... even though it was outdoors and everyone distanced.

Thread: Let's take a quick look at the drones used in the attack on Asad base and make a few comparisons.
A comparison with the images of a drone used on January 3, shows some differences in construction (wing attachment etc); but the basic concept appears similar.
We can see here via @nafisehkBBC the photos from the Jan. 3 drones;

What's amazing is that it is Ankara bombing Iraq, bombing Sinjar, etc; and they are always trying to misdirect fake anger towards Israel, a country that has done nothing to Iraqis...which if anything Iraq is often belligerent to for no reason...it makes no sense.
We got used to this nonsense whereby countries that are far far away from Israel, which Israel didn't do anything to, where the locals know nothing about Israel...are bashing it. It's as random as if they drove over the flag of Malawi....but we are told "no, this is normal"
We are told, of course some Iraqi in Basra, where the government is a disaster and there is corruption and pollution and poverty...that this poor person should waste their time hating Israel and adopting some foreign conflict as their own...as logical as to take up Burma too

2 years into the pandemic they can’t figure out how to have efficient tests…I somehow bet that this isn’t an issue in Singapore, Japan, Chiba etc; just a thought. Why in the US an “ER” is “clogged” with people who just want a test but can otherwise stay home is unclear
I’ve taken a few tests in the US, one was at a temporary drive thru at a hospital in Portland, Maine, another at a curbside of a health clinic and another at a drive thru of a health clinic in NY…they were all PCR tests…so why they can’t just have a cubicle outside?
You’d think two years into this basic things could be solved. It’s like if they’d told you 2 years into WWII they still couldn’t build a tank or B-17 in America…you’d wonder…
