I've said it before, but this bears repeating but entire so-called academic fields in the West are basically de facto government agencies. Political science, international relations, cultural anthropology, any "area" studies. Everyone who isn't financially independent going into
these so-called fields ends up either as a government serf or working retail. The reality is that all of these seemingly disparate fields of study actually used to be unified field before subject to the specialization pressure rampant in academia. That being the Colonial Office
of the British Empire. This was never a field for Ivory tower dilettantes but for would be imperial bureaucrats. This fact has been obscured by the people filling it's corridors but cannot escape the observant. You can tell because the focus is all on areas of interest to empire
and more importantly the direction of their rhetorical and dialectical analysis. They seek a deeper understanding of hostile regimes in order to primarily provide the veneer of academic rigour and neutrality to what the empire wants but also to use that understanding to coerce
but their understanding of their own regime structures stops right at their PR department and goes no further. None of these "scholars" are actually interested in analyzing how Western Democratic regimes actually function, defaulting to the government line every time when pressed
They should instead be conceptualized as lower level cogs of a gargantuan propaganda and consent generating organization. China being a Leninist state is actually upfront about the existence and role of such a government organ. The United Front Works Department does everything it

ice cream cone that is in reality lubricated by prestige, having a PhD to attach to your name, and the meager livelihood that results from US government money ultimately paying for everything. The prestige really is the biggest draw, particularly for non Western compradors which
are generally drawn from the relatively well to do classes but lack the easy access to associating with the high status West.
