As if ROK’s National Security Law was the guiding force behind NK News’ editorial policy, the society-wide socialist collective way of life in the DPRK, from Pyongyang to the countryside, is incomprehensible to the Western mind & media, whose Pavlovian knee-jerk response is to

excoriate NK Vlogs are the “same old propaganda” based on the ideological premise that “North Koreans have no freedoms and are oppressed by a brutal dictator who starves his people”. But there are happy NK children:

And North Koreans indeed have a socialist identity (which obviously is incomprehensible to bourgeoisie capitalist democracy) and feel safer having nuclear weapons that defend DPRK against a hostile US.

One has to view North Korean society as it is, not filtered through the prism of Western propaganda. Un A and Jin Hui had freedom to “frustrate the reactionary offensive of the enemy and raise the prestige of the DPRK by enhancing the role of the external information sector.”

“Aha!!” you say. “You admit that Un A and Jin Hui are propagandists!” Far from it. They are patriotically combatting Western distorted beliefs:

Kim Jong Un is advocating for being pro-active re DPRK’s ideology, i.e. presenting it in a holistic & instructive context (Un A & Jin Hui Vlogs) to the international community, instead of simply being reactive.

Is U Hyon’s story real? Is it art? Is it propaganda? It’s a visual short story about sacrifice for one's motherland, something like "visual literature". It's creative, expressive & the human emotion is undeniable.

If art (the Vlog) is imitating life, then U Hyon’s story is fictional. But if the Vlog is a true story, then
life (youth volunteering to work in the countryside) is imitating the creative art of the Vlog. But then maybe there's no imitation and both just reflect one another.

I'll venture to say that if anyone in the West points the finger to call NK Vlogging propaganda, three fingers are pointing right back. It's better not to point any fingers and to take in - visually, poetically, musically & emotionally - what talented North Koreans are creating.
